Over 22,000 rabbits last weekend in Harrisburg PA at the 90th ARBA Convention. This is about 1/2 of them. Allergy medication recommended.

The Texas State Fair always has a huge rabbit exhibit and one year I watched Angora rabbit owners "card" the bunny fur and a woman at a spinning wheel actually spun the fur into thread. It was fascinating!

I've spun angora. It is so fine and delicate it is rarely made into yarn on its own. Usually it is mixed with sheep's wool or silk. The fun thing is, because many types of angora rabbits molt and do not need to be sheared, when they are in process of losing their fur (which is every 3 months) you can spin right from the rabbit.

Goodness - I've never touched a spinning wheel. It looks like it needs a very balanced touch to get even yarns.

i have a kromski symphony

and several spindles. It takes some fiddling to get the symphony to run smoothly - it has to twist and take up at the exact proper rate to create the tightness of twist you need in your finished yarn - but after that it is fast. You learn how much fiber is needed to maintain a consistent width very quickly.

I hope that dog is a sheltie, because a rabbit the size of a collie is just SCARY!

Whatever the dog is - that CANNOT be a bunnie... can it?

It's the Godzilla of bunnies, the Mothra of rabbits...

what if it decides to nibble on you? What if it turns carnivorous?

That rabbit looks the size of the one we had. It was from a breed known for growing huge before they are butchered.

My DD just acquired two English Lops. They have no max weight (for the breed standard) and will likely be in the 20 lb range. That's 9 lbs heavier than our Sheltie.

Isn't she a cutie??
