That video reminded me of this contraption my dad had when I was kid---I don't know if he made it, had it made, or bought it somewhere---that had several bars with holes that slid over your wheel lugs and formed a spool about the size of the wheel and had a long length of heavy rope that theoretically you could tie off to something and use to get your car unstuck.

In reality I think it was probably only good for breaking wheel studs and injuring bystanders but it was a novel if not not very well thought out idea.
