Default If Your Eyes Don't Get a Little Misty, Ask Santa For a Soul

If you can't get the video to play let me know, I'll try to get a different source for you:

***Watch these nurses soothe a preemie baby with a Christmas carol

Amid the rush of last-minute shopping, it's easy to forget that not everyone is spending Christmas at home with their families.

Staff at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre have released a moving reminder that some people, including the city's tiniest babies, will be spending the holidays in the hospital.

In a minute-long video posted on the hospital's blog and social media feeds, two nurses in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) sing Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas to baby Anya, who was born on Dec. 11.

Little Anya, her knit Santa hat a cozy contrast to her feeding and breathing tubes, sleeps peacefully as the nurses, also wearing Santa hats, sing to her.

The idea for the video came from Kate Robson, a parent co-ordinator at the NICU, who marvelled at the nurses' beautiful singing voices as they serenaded their tiny patients. Marieneth Montenegro and Lisa Sampson are both veteran nurses who understand that babies are comforted by the sound of human voices singing.

"Babies love voices, and they love singing, and it's something we try to encourage," Robson told CBC Toronto.

"It calms them and it de-stresses them."

While the best thing for babies is the sound of their parents' voices, Robson said, nurses who can carry a tune can fill in...***

Both these ladies DO have lovely singing voices but immeasurable layers of beauty are added by the love.

Thumbs up Old horse joins pack of mini donkeys to avoid slaughter

You know the saying: 'You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him (or here ) drink' ? Guess you don't need to lead a horse to his last chance, ride to freedom!

This wise, old soul of a horse must have thought he had nothing left to lose, in trying to save his own life......... Bless the wonderful volunteers who figured that any creature so determined to live, should be given a chance. And good on those wonderful souls who donated to that old fella and others like him, could also be saved!

An old gray horse headed for slaughter in Mexico recently orchestrated his escape by slipping into a pack of mini donkeys being rescued by a Frisco-based nonprofit, the group's president said.

Staff members of Becky's Hope Horse Rescue were down at a "kill lot" to rescue several donkeys, which is part of their mission to save abused, neglected or abandoned livestock. Bubbles, the horse, walked right up to their trailer as they tried to load the donkeys, according to a Facebook post from the nonprofit published Dec. 16.

"He was intent that this was his ride out of there," the post said. "We stood there staring as this old guy with crumbled ears from frostbite waited patiently for the group of mini donkeys to catch up so he could jump on the "freedom trailer" out of there."

Sue Chapman, president of Becky's Hope Horse Rescue, told KTVT-TV (Channel 11) that she firmly believes Bubbles thought they wouldn't notice if he mixed in with the donkeys they'd intended to rescue on their most recent trip.

"He's like, 'I'm just one of them,'" Chapman said. "Got on the trailer with them, stood there like 'You don't see me,' and kept his head kind of down."

Bubbles disregarded the commands of the staff at the "kill lot" as he trotted through the gates, according to the Facebook post.

More than 5,000 people have "reacted" to the post and it's been shared nearly 700 times.

Champan and a volunteer, who said she just couldn't bear to leave Bubbles, paid $450 so they could take him back to the nonprofit's pastures in North Texas, Channel 11 reports.

As news spread of Bubble's successful escape, so did donations.

Becky's Hope Horse Rescue has received at least $5,000 since the Facebook post went viral. The organization has been able to use some of the funds to rescue two other horses, Chapman told the station.

"I've never had that happen," she said. "People from all over the world are sending $5 from Japan, $5 from Germany, $15 from England the other day."

That is wonderful! I'm glad they got, (at last count), over ten times what they paid to save Bubbles.

Default One haircut, two five-year-old boys and a lesson in racial prejudice

***When five-year-old Jax demanded a buzz cut like his school friend Reddy Weldon’s, he thought nothing of it, his mother Lydia Stith Rosebush explained.

“He just said, ‘I’m getting it cut like Reddy. I’m going to look like Reddy,’” Stith Rosebush told CTVNews.ca in a phone interview from her home in Louisville, K.Y. on Thursday.

Jax’s intention was simple enough: he wanted to trick their pre-K teacher, Ms. April, into mixing up their identities in class.

His logic seems spot-on, but the innocence of his plan turned his fashion choice request into a viral sensation after his mother shared the story online.

The reason? Jax is white and Reddy is black...***
