Default Chalkboards from 1917 frozen in time

Quote:
Teachers and students scribbled the lessons — multiplication tables, pilgrim history, how to be clean — nearly 100 years ago. And they haven’t been touched since.

This week, contractors removing old chalkboards at Emerson High School in Oklahoma City made a startling discovery: Underneath them rested another set of chalkboards, untouched since 1917.

How do you suppose that multiplication wheel works? I've been staring at it for awhile.

I'm hoping someone knows. Too many old 'tricks' that worked have been lost.

I stared for a long time too, somebody has to know how it works. Such a cool find. Anybody notice what appears to be a different partial version of the Pledge?

I think it might have just been a multiplication wheel, where you multiply the number in the middle with the number on the spoke. Perhaps a classwork or homework assignment to do 2s, 3s, 4s, etc.

I do not think it is random. But it does appear to be intentionally - but lazily.

I say this because it looks like someone wanted to put a lot of numbers up on the outside quickly. I say this because the 6:00 position is a 2. The it increments to the left, right, left, right, etc. The teacher tried to simply mix it up - but was not using a "random number generator".
