Question UTI's ..............

I've not had a UTI is decades. IMO the years of constant stress due to all of hubby's many, many health issues is finally taking its toll on my body, specifically my immune system. Got the flu shot, got the flu 10 days later and I've not had the flu in the last almost 30 years. Now a UTI. Had a full blood panel in the last 45 +/- days and nothing out of range. Of course hubby, bless his soul, can't understand why I'm stressed out

Picked up a couple bottles of 100% unsweetened cranberry juice today and am alternating 8 ounces of that with 8 ounces of water, all day long. I think I'm catching this very early, only had symptoms for the last day or two.

I see my new GP at the end of the month, don't want to go to a urgent care clinic because I'm cheap and my insurance doesn't consider a UTI a valid reason to cover the visit.

Any other suggestions that you might suggest?

TIA!!!

Ocean Spray CranCherry goes down much better. Drink a glass at night so that it's in you as you sleep (in longer). Keeps that bacteria from adhering or multiplying, IIRC. Has worked like a charm for DD that way.

Some of the symptoms of what seems to be a UTI can also be a result of dehydration. If your symptoms are worse in the morning, within the first few hours of being awake, that may mean that hydration is the problem.

Because of my medical weirdness, I fight a daily battle to stay sufficiently hydrated. Sometimes I lose and end up with some symptoms of a UTI. So I've learned to drink a lot of fluids in the couple of hours before I go to bed. That keeps me hydrated while I sleep. This is just something to think about - but you should still see your doctor.

Dehydration also crossed my mind ---- So I've been increasing the amount of plain water (instead of ice tea) I'm drinking. I'm going to give the cranberry juice and increased water a couple of days, and increasing my water intake in the evening, starting tonight and see how it goes.

I don't drink coffee anymore (no reason other than I'm off it, for the time being) have only a cup of either green tea or Irish breakfast tea in the morning. Overall my caffeine intake is fairly low.

Since I have to spend so much time in places relate to all of hubby's medical issues, the less I have to do doctors for myself, the better.

And the dehydration might be due to the fact that when I had my bout of flu, I took a Mucinex type of OTC to combat the chest congestion ....... I thought I had upped my water intake sufficient to counteract the effects of that, but it's possible it was still not quite enough

That's whats in AZO, otc, I think.

Not really had any pain beyond a mild to moderate discomfort.

Perhaps I should pick up some, just to have in the home remedy stock.

Dehydration makes you more prone to UTIs, since bacteria is not being flushed out often enough, and therefore multiplying. Even just lots of water will help. It's usually pretty full of bacteria by the time you have symptoms, thus the need for cranberry.

I seem to get several uti's a year. I begin my day drinking a quart of water and taking this:

By lunch, I have had another quart of water and by dinner, another quart. I try to drink a gallon a day but at minimum, I drink three quarts. I only wear cotton underwear, which I change mid-day. When urinating, I make sure my bladder is completely empty. When I have a flare-up, I start popping four of the cranberry tablets throughout the day (they are time release and contain juniper berry, uva ursi, parsley, and other beneficial herbs). Only in extreme circumstances do I go to the doctor for antibiotics.

I've also found that eating too much sugar, drinking too much coffee, stress, and not urinating and showering immediately after sex, can also trigger the beginnings of a uti. I'm sorry you're going through this. I know how absolutely awful they can be. (((Hugs)))

I didn't know that. I'm going to get some and put it on the testing schedule.

Thanks!!
