The SBI races were held on 2 October just off Clearwater Beach. We anchored up on the Gulf side of the course and watched the action. Lots of boats, lots of people, lots of noise and a whole lot of speed!
The first four are a series from one of the boats crashing. I posted two of these on an Instagram account and Speedboat Magazine picked them up and shared them. From that Instagram share, one of the folks from the racing team contacted me wanting to know if I had more photos to help them piece together what happened.
As best they can figure, the port side drive broke, which induced some violent oscillations mixed with riding the wake from a boat slightly in front the bow finally dug into a wave and flipped. The driver had a concussion and the throttle man had a broken C2 in his neck. Both are expected to recover fully.
