An AP report has him attacked by a spray rather than needles... be interesting to see what verifiable or verified info might come out.

In any case - blatant is the word.

He have any other siblings who could be perceived as a threat to his power?

Wikipedia says:
Quote:
Kim Jong-un has one half-brother, one half-sister and an older full-brother (see below). He also has a younger full-sister, Kim Yo-jong, who was believed to be about 23 in 2012. She sometimes accompanies him.[17][18] A Washington Post article states that he has an aunt and uncle who defected to the United States.[167]

The joke was on her! 'LOL assassin' may have been duped into murdering Kim Jong Un's brother by 'friends' who told her to wipe poison on him 'as a prank' as a second woman and her boyfriend are arrested
Quote:
A woman arrested over the death of Kim Jong-nam ' was tricked into killing him'
It is claimed that she was told to wipe poison on his face by friends 'as a prank'
Victim, the half-brother of Kim Jong-un, had criticised the North Korean regime
Second woman and her boyfriend have since been arrested by Malaysian police

I've been wondering as well. Unless it really was some sort of needle injection it would have been as dangerous to the assassin as the intended victim.

Yuppers. I've been thinking of the fastest/most lethal substances I know of. Fastest are the cyanides, most lethal (and most able to penetrate skin) are the organophosphates (nerve gasses). I'm thinking the latter, but one would have to be extremely careful not to poison oneself in the process of administering it—more careful than someone wiping it as a "prank" would be likely to be, for sure.

I've been wondering about it too. My thinking is that it most likely had to be inhaled. If it was something easily absorbed by the skin, the woman could have just shaken his hand while holding the cloth and wearing a glove. That would have garnered far less attention than covering his face. And a 2-handed grip could have easily saturated both sides of his hand.

None of the articles I've read have given any time references - did he seek help immediately, or within 5 minutes or 15 minutes? Then figure in the time taken to get to the airport clinic, and whatever time he spent there, and then the time to get to the ambulance (assuming it was already at the airport). Add all that up and I bet it would be close to 30 minutes and even longer if the ambulance wasn't already at the airport.

I suspect the autopsy results will take a good while due to the toxicology tests that will be need to be done. I am curious to see what ends up being the cause of death.

According to Reuters:

Quote:
A few steps away from a Starbucks cafe and a Puffy Buffy Malaysian food stall, one of the women stood in front of their quarry to distract him. Her accomplice approached from behind, pulled a cloth drenched in some chemical from a blue handbag, reached around his head and clamped it onto his face.

That was enough to deliver a deadly poison to the portly 46-year-old relative of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, according to a senior Malaysian government source and Malaysian police official Fadzil Ahmat, who both spoke to Reuters.

After the attack, Kim Jong Nam approached a help desk and explained that someone seemed to have grabbed or held his face and now he felt dizzy. He was taken to the Menara Medical Clinic, a small glass-fronted surgery one floor down near the arrivals area.

"He still felt unwell there, so they decided to send him to the hospital, and he died in the ambulance on the way to Putrajaya Hospital," said Ahmat.

Tetrodotoxin. Hadn't thought of that. Basically a nerve toxin. It fits.

http://www.straitstimes.com/asia/se-...r-tetrodotoxin

Ricin seems very unlikely, it's slow, and I don't know why it is being considered. Nerve agents, as we usually think of them, are powerful cholinergic agents, and he would have had profuse discharge of secretions and probable vomiting, which have not been mentioned.

In a story that could be cribbed straight from a spy novel, intelligence chiefs in South Korea say female agents dispatched by their secretive northern neighbour administered the lethal dose, with reports suggesting a toxin was sprayed in his face.

Among the possible poisons are ricin, a lethal chemical found in the seeds of castor oil plants or tetrodotoxin, which is the killer ingredient in puffer fish.

The former is a slow working poison while tetrodotoxin is known to paralyse and kill victims fairly quickly.
Maybe. This sounds like they still don't know. The two poisons act very differently.

If it were tetrodotoxin then I think it must have been injected as the "face wipe" seems to be to be very chancy.

Inhalation will do the trick for tetrodotoxin.

Nerve toxins, plenty to choose from: http://www.asanltr.com/newsletter/02...eurotoxins.htm

Grab someone's face from behind and cover their nose with a cloth. The panic response takes over immediately. They will almost certainly gasp for air and breathe in whatever is on the cloth. That seems like a plausible scenario to me. If its the right toxin, it could even be done without wearing gloves.

When you piss-off China and you are small-time thug ........

Quote:
Kim Jong Nam had been hosted and protected by China for many years,
and his murder, if proved to be conducted on Pyongyang’s orders, would
be seen as a direct affront to Beijing, experts said.
It will hurt big time ..........

Quote:
BEIJING — China will suspend all imports of coal from North Korea
until the end of the year, the Commerce Ministry announced Saturday,
in a surprise move that would cut off a major financial lifeline for Pyongyang
and significantly enhance the effectiveness of U.N. sanctions.

I read this in SCMP a few days ago. The article speculated that China was saving Nam to take over if people revolted and UN was gone.

Kind of makes sense. Having been the son of "Dear Leader" but liberal, he would have been a good transition to an open society.

Malaysia say there is no evidence of a heart attack or puncture wounds on Kim Jong-un's murdered brother and his cause of death is still unknown

Police said that he told officials that 'two unidentified women had swabbed or had wiped his face with a liquid and that he felt dizzy'
Authorities have now said no puncture wounds or marks were found on his body
Malaysian police believe he was assassinated on the orders of Kim Jong-un
It is believed Kim Jong Nam was murdered using a fast-acting liquid poison

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...d-brother.html

I suspect at least part of the reason for the risky use of the two women who actually made the attack was that there was a high risk of accidentally killing themselves with the poison as their target.

North Korean diplomat is wanted for questioning over the murder of Kim Jong-un's brother, as police say 'female assassins' coated their hands with poison and wiped victim's face

Malaysian police want to question North Korean diplomat Hyon Kwang Song
They also want to speak to a North Korean airline employee called Kim Uk Il
Officers dismissed claims two 'female assassins' thought poisoning was a prank

Malaysian police suspect five North Koreans in the killing of
Kong Jong-Nam, and seek three more for questioning, including
diplomat Hyon Kwang Song

Jong-Nam died on February 13 after being attacked as he waited

I read in some Asian paper, perhaps SCMP, there was an attempted breakin at the morgue holding his body.

VX nerve agent used in Kim assassination: IGP
By NST ONLINE - 24 February 2017

KUALA LUMPUR: A preliminary report from the Chemistry Department has indicated that a highly toxic chemical known as ‘VX Nerve agent’ was utilised to kill Kim Jong-nam.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said the chemical substance had been identified as ‘Ethyl S-2- Diisopropylaminoethyl Methylyphosphonothiolate.

He said the Royal Malaysian Police’s Centre for Chemical Weapon Analysis carried out preliminary analysis on a dry swab from the victim’s eye mucous, as well as a separate dry swab from the victim’s face.

“The chemical substance of the exhibits has been identified as Ethyl S-2- Diisopropylaminoethyl Methylyphosphonothiolate or ‘XV nerve agent,” he said in a statement today.

VX is listed as a chemical weapon under Schedule 1 of the Chemical Weapons Convention Act 2005 and Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) 1997.

How do you deploy VX without risking contact without risking yourself in a normal environment?
