South Korea Yonhap is reporting that Dev Grp is being stationed in the theater. (I wish news services didn't do that kind of thing but it is done)

The fear here is someone paints themselves into a corner, by having their bluff called. Kim just said if the US doesn't stop their joint exercises with the South, the Norks would attack. But obviously the US isn't going to stop.

Let's hope lil Kim attacks and get this mess over with. Better now than when he has more and larger nukes.

Probably right. We will have conflict with Kim some day, and better now when they're ability to deliver nukes is limited. They might get a few off before its all over, and maybe a couple fall into the ocean, and maybe they hit Japan or S.Korea. But some day, not too far off, they'll be able to hit L.A., San Francisco and Seattle and a dozen other cities all at once. They're said to have about 20 warheads already. Just unreliable delivery systems.

Someone should just start broadcasting (translated) "the Interview" over possible frequency into the North.

That'd probably get little kim worked up a bit

Has Baby Kim forgotten that we have MANY aircraft carriers? Not to mention the sub fleet that can make Pyongyang into a sheet of radioactive glass.

Trumps biggest problem is China .

He could end the NK regime in about a week , but will China accept
it ? Obviously the last thing anybody wants is a war with China .

Therefore he must find a solution that China will accept . I think we
are about to find out exactly how good a negotiator Trump actually
is .

Lil Kim, in his delusional mind, thinks that he can wup the USA. His men agree with him and that reinforces his mind.

If you were one of his military personal would you disagree with him??????

Kim knows good and well he cannot really challenge the U.S. militarily.

BUT, he also has to keep a certain amount of international attention centered on North Korea. The one thing he cannot allow is for the world to forget about him.

Thus all of the nutty behavior.

isolated, communist country and has seen a North Korean missile launcher

The officials, who weren't authorized to discuss the matter publicly and
spoke on condition of anonymity, said the new surveillance includes
satellites, drones and other aircraft.

Kim might be going for a MAD situation. Let's say they have 20 nukes, and let's say they build about 20 mobile ICBM launchers. They will arguably be in a position where with high confidence that, say 2 or 3, of them will hit the US even in a second-strike scenario.

Might be possible within a short timeframe, perhaps 2 or 3 years from now. Not so crazy. MAD means a kind of equality with the US. Or at least a military stalemate.

Nuclear weapons do confer a type of respect on a nation that nothing else can.

But NK is far from being the only nation with such weapons and his are limited, at best. If he were to become too squirrelly I have no doubt the Pentagon will have plans by which they will try to neutralize those weapons. Much as we probably have plans to do with Pakistan, et. al.

There's a degree of risk, of course, so the perceived threat ratio would have to be high enough to be worth taking that risk.

Trump is negotiating with China over North Korea and as with
other major issues he is moving as fast as circumstances allow .

Quote:
Among the key topics for discussion with Xi Jinping, the US president said he would
focus on the growing threat from Kim Jong Un’s nuclear program when he hosts the
Chinese president at his Florida resort this week in their first meeting.

“China has great influence over North Korea. And China will either decide to help us with
North Korea, or they won’t,” Mr Trump said in the Oval Office. “If they do, that will be very
good for China, and if they don’t, it won’t be good for anyone.”

Quote:
“Well if China is not going to solve North Korea, we will. That is all I am telling you.”
China is the real stumbling block not your ability to take out NK .
To me the interesting question is what will he offer China ?
He could lower the US debt roughly 25% by selling them Hawaii at a good price .

Trump orders his generals 'give me options for taking out Kim's nukes' and tells military to prepare to 'remove North Korean threat'

H. R. McMaster said Trump wants 'options' for taking out North Korea's nukes
Did not say what the options are, but pre-emptive strikes likely to be considered
He spoke as USS Carl Vinson strike group was redeployed to Korean peninsula
McMaster said move is 'proportionate' given North's 'provocative behavior'

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...-official.html

Lieutenant General H. R. McMaster confirmed Trump has asked
his advisers to be ready with a list of options to take out North
Korea's nuclear threat

Pyongyang is about twelve hours ahead of US Eastern Time meaning that whatever goes down there in the afternoon will be early morning hours here.

Presuming it comes on at all, the five a.m. newscast on my clock/radio is increasingly becoming a thing of wonder.

It is going to be very nasty!

I think China gave the "Green" light - possibly in exchange for island concessions.

Wink, wink!

"The US has an active military personnel of 1.4 million, and a reserve army of 1.1 million.

When it comes to soldiers based on North Korean border, the US only has about 20,000 troops permanently stationed in South Korea, as well as about 8000 air force personnel and other special forces.

There were also about 50,000 military personnel based in Japan.

Compare this to North Korea, which has 700,000 active soldiers, but a whopping 4.5 million reserves."

Andy, the trick to knocking North Korea out of the fight is to destroy their food storage. You will not put 4.5 million Reserves in the field when you have no means to supply them. What you will end up with is a humanitarian disaster. Massive air lifts of food.

I'm no expert, but I would also think their communications infrastructure/command and control are extremely vulnerable. NK has mountainous terrain, plus they have widely dispersed their assets as a defensive move. Cut off the head quickly, and the legs and arms won't know what to do.

Other materiel needs make them vulnerable too, like oil. Unless China resupplies them, a naval blockade and preventing them from coming south through the border will stifle them.

I seem to remember several decades ago that there was a lot of talk about tunnels from NORK-Land to the South. BIG TUNNELS!
