Default Knowledge about Beta 1,3 1,6 Glucan?

Looking for some help to conclude wherever it would be dangerous or useful to take a supplement of Beta 1,3 1,6 Glucan to prepare the body for swineflu. It seems to boost the immune system. Will it be useless? useful or dangerous? I am considering to give it as a supplement to my kids.( in addition to vitamin D) I hope for a reply from people with more knowledge than myself.

Anty,
I can't answer your question w/re flu. but
I want to thank you for posting this question here because per the Wikipedia article (the one I read so far) it has beneficial effects in prevention and treatment of cancer.
And in the treatment of septic shock, a term I consider synonymous with cytokien Storm.

(It also mentions Brewers yeast and oat bran as good natural sources.)
