Default drummagick's Tigress Butter

Ought Six was curious about the recipe so here it is. This is my sore muscle rub I've been making, and selling, for a few years now.

I really need a new name for it. Tiger balm was one of my inspirations, and the name is way too close but the only thing I could think of at the time.

Organic arnica, cottonwood buds, helichrysum, St John's wort, calendula and comfrey leaf infused in organic olive and sunflower oils, menthol crystals, beeswax, shea butter, aloe vera gel, extracts of arnica, St John's wort, calendula & comfrey root, vitamin E oil, essential oils of camphor, peppermint, wintergreen, ginger, clove, cassia, cajeput, black pepper, helichrysum italicum and St John's wort.

The herbal infused oils are triple infused in a warm water bath over 3 weeks. Dried herb and oil, infuse for a week. Strain and add new herb to oil, infuse for another week. New herb and another week.

I'm about to switch oils, due to a change in my circumstances a few months ago, I really can't afford to be buying and having shipped organic oils from Mountain Rose in Oregon. Costco has some extra virgin olive oils that will do just fine. I will still be using the organic herbs from Mountain Rose though.

Arrow Hey! You have been holding out on us!

'Tigress butter'? Now the guys will *never* use the stuff!

If you sell this on the web, a link would be appreciated. If not, can we PM you to place an order?

Before I start thinking about names - what image do you want your product to project?

Love. Comfort. Relief of pain. Damned if I know.

There are so many sectors of humanity to market to. Rockclimbers. Martial arts enthusiasts like O6. Farmers. Loggers. Office workers stuck at a computer all day with stiff necks and shoulders.

I stumbled across someone selling a handmade pain salve online last year and they had named it something like Rock, River, Mountain or something like that I think they were marketing to outdoorsy types and I thought the name was brilliant.

Muscle Magic ®

A Natural Balm for Aches and Soreness

I will PM you an address to send the royalty checks to.

Actually, I just checked and there is at least one person in North Carolina already using it, but there is no indication that the name is anybody's registered trademark or anything. Any common name you can think of will already be in use by somebody, so that is not really a big deal.

One of the essential oils I use, helichrysum italicum, is patented for use in anti-aging skin care products by a French company

http://usa.loccitane.com/FO/anti-aging-skincare.htm

however, it's also one of the best essential oils for bruising, and is also very good for pain, like sports type injuries.

I feel that it makes other herbs work better, like comfrey and calendula together work better. Sort of a synergy thing going on.

In the old days before political correctness stepped in, they used to make that simply by running a female tiger around a tree, round\, and round, until she melted down...,

That was my first idea for a label! A blur of tigers running around a tree melting into butter.

When I was little I had a book of fairy tales with that story in it. I sure wish I still had that book, all the illustrations were done by a very famous children's story artist of the time.

Except instead of Sambo looking on, it was going to be the drummer from my drummer's hand repair salve labels.

I remember the kind of picture (tiger) you're talking about. I think the label idea is a good one.

Well, I've got 'drum' in the name of my drummer's hand salve.

Trying to think of something that will cover a wide range of demographic. A name that hasn't been used 5,000 other times in some form or another.

It's been somewhere between 3 and 5 years and I still haven't been able to think of something.

I imagine when that right name comes along, it will be earthshaking. lol

IMHO tigress butter really doesn't tell the consumer what your product is. I did find this similar product : http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tiger...edirected=true. Does it have to have tiger in the name? Maybe just use the tiger as your logo, as in "such and such balm can sooth the tiger in you.." or how about "tiger sport balm"? Probably too close to the above linked product. One product name that always makes me smile is the baby diaper cream "Boudreaux's butt paste"- "cheeky" but you know what its for!

Tiger Balm was my main inspiration. I was using it on arthritic joints, and it works great!

I was feeling the need to do something creative and thought maybe I could make something like that!

After all, Tiger Balm is only petroleum jelly, paraffin and some essential oils.

Couldn't be that hard!

Now I know why new prescription drugs are so expensive, all that R & D.

Tigress Butter is MUCH too close in name to Tiger Balm. It was only ever meant to be a temporary name and doesn't mean anything other than I couldn't think of anything else right offhand.

I had to call it something other than "this stuff I make for sore muscles and painful joints"

lol

Sorry - I didn't know the reference. So I'm no help! I do like this tag line, though- maybe you can fiddle with it for a name idea: "get back to your life"
