Default Making furniture

I am sure some will remember me removing linoleum and replacing it with ceramic tile.

Well, Ms. Pote decides she wanted a matching kitchen table and side table using the same tile.

She comes up with the pattern and I execute.

Same ceramic tile laid on 3/4" plywood, surrounded with wood trim, grout to match the one on the floor, etc.

Don't wrestle with a pig. The pig enjoys it and you get muddy.

Pot, that's lovely work. Seal those tables well - the grout & they'll last forever. I really like the wood trim.

Nice!

If your garage wasn't so clean, I'd have thought you were a professional.

HA! My back was to all of the other stuff. That open space is where I park the car.

I've seen tables with tile tops in furniture stores here and really like them. You did a great job, Pote.

Everyone, thanks.

They aren't really that hard. The hardest part is cutting the top square and cutting a large sheet of 3/4" plywood.

But, most of the DIY stores will give you 1-2 cuts free on their large saw. Just buy the tiles, lay it out on the floor, account for the grout lines, measure and give them the dimensions.

You can also buy tiles with the grout spacers built in if you can find a pattern you like. (Or use the cheap plastic tiles spacers if they don't

Tiles are applied with construction adhesive like Liquid Nails which give you a few minutes to get everything right.

Side trim is 1"x2" pine trim which you can cut at 45degrees with a cheap miter box. Nail/construction adhesive them on, set the nails into the wood and fill with wood putty.

Grout? In the old days you would buy a bag about the size of a 5lb bag of sugar. Too thick, too thin, have to throw away the rest.

Now, they will small amount in a Tupperware looking containers. Open, fill to the line with water, mix and there you go. Just the right consistency.
