Default Game Cameras

I am about to take the plunge and buy a low end Game/Trail Camera
as shown below.

Anyone have experience with Game/Trail Cameras ?

Its first job will be to watch the entrance to a large burrow that
is suspected of being home to a Wombat . As such it
may be left alone out in the bush for up to a week
on its first mission . Wombats are nocturnal .

I will probably press the buy button within the next 12 hours unless
you say otherwise .

I would be surprised if it didn't do just what you want. I have used much cheaper ones and the only problem I have had is tripping quick enough on a fast moving animal.

Unfortunately the date/time stamp on my camera is wrong and
resistant to change .

Wombats were a dud as shown below . I always was suspicious of
the wombat hole simply because the entrance was too small
although inside it is quite cavernous . The only other pieces of evidence were
unusual droppings located nearby and a night time wombat sighting roughly
70 yards away . Some images are poor which I think is due to fogging
of the lenses and there were no night images at all . I am unsure why .

Thanks BG but I am reluctant to recommend the camera yet .

I have thus far been unable to make the menu work as described by
the little manual . It is possible I was sold a dud as I bought
it on Ebay from Hong Kong ..

Unfortunately the box it arrived in is long gone and the little manual
only shows Model Number : SG-007 . However if you log on to Ebay
you will see them advertised at a wide variety of prices.

I now realize no night time pictures were taken because I had it on
the wrong setting . Next time I will do it properly .

I would like to buy at least one more camera because when I go
away there are often multiple spots I would like to cover and little
time available . Unfortunately because of the menu problem I am
dithering about another purchase .

It is likely but not certain I will set it up again during the coming
week and if so will post pics and details of my experience with it
and whether I have conquered the menu problem .

Rats , I just made a very long post and then accidentally deleted it .

Too long to type again so in summary :

# As noted elsewhere the game camera did manage to snap
a rather poor image of the wombat at night.

# Trying again this Saturday but with camera over supposed Wombat hole
for a few days ( dunno exactly how long ) .

# My mistake last time was to allow too much background in the picture
which caused hundreds of unwanted daylight images to be generated .

# Wombats have multiple burrows within their territory so whether
the selected hole will still be in use is anybodies guess .

Shown below the wombat at night and
a daylight image generated by the camera from the same position .

I just sent that image to a friend and his response was that
the tail is too bushy for a possum .

My feelings are that the legs are a little long for a possum then
again it does not look very much like a fox but what else could
it be .

BG ... Unfortunately the last lot of nighttime images were dreadful
because I had the camera too close to the ground and consequently
reflected flash blinded the camera .

If you look at the last image in my prior post you can see a faint image
of the critter on the right-hand side .

If it is a small fox , while not unexpected , it is bad news for wombats .
However there are lots of baby bunnies in the area and perhaps foxes
will take easier prey .

I have reset the camera to a higher position and am hopeful of obtaining
better images next time I visit .

I spent yesterday checking out wombat holes in the area with a friend .
( after a leisurely BBQ of course )
That is him in the image below climbing out of a wombat hole by the creek.
Most holes are far better concealed though .

We are also debating what kind of bird this is . Possibly a "Heron" ?

I left my game camera out in the bush for a few days ( by a creek )
and it captured the following images ..............

One healthy looking fox ....

One Echidna

Some kind of bush rat ???

It does not seem to have a very rat like nose , so I am uncertain .
Research needed .

One fat possum
