The problem in this incident is the sign that says "It Is Time To Water Tree Of Liberty." There are no conditions in the statement that prevent it from being a direct and immediate statement he intends to use it.

To be so enamored with the right to carry guns that threats are ignored is one of the major reasons gun rights keep coming under attack. Many people lose trust in the gun advocates who can't see this rather obvious difference between being armed, and being armed saying saying he's going to kill someone. Just because gun rights believers would agree with his current choice is not a good reason to allow the guy to make the promise.
According to FiddlerDave, we can only excercise ONE right at any given time. Are you serious? And since when does quoting the Founding Fathers mean that you are threatening anyone? If I recall correctly, this gentleman didn't go INSANE AND SHOOT PEOPLE, so your entire statement is moot.

I applaud this gentleman's calm, legal, quiet but attention-getting exercise of his rights. Things like illustrate the fact that it isn't only bad guys that carry guns.

I do object to his sign, only because it's an obvious call to violence. Things have not yet reached the point here where violence is the only course of action remaining. But this is only a matter of my opinion differing from his. I think we can still do some pruning and pest removal on the Tree before watering it with blood.

His sign was legal, because it was not a clear instigation of direct violent action against a specific person or group. Debatably distasteful, it was still 1st Amendment speech. His sign would be illegal if it said, for example, "water the tree of liberty, kill your congressman".

I want to bring up this thread again to show a little more video. Sometimes all we hear about are the bad cops. I want to show a good cop doing his job professionally.

The first video shows the interaction between William Kostric and Portsmouth police lieutenant Corey McDonald. I admire how the two of them conducted themselves.

The second video is from NH activist Dave Ridley's "Ridley Report". The first part is a repeat of the first video. The second part where a NH liberty activist is spat on by some asshole. No matter what you think of the liberty activists in NH, this is really out of line.

That cop deserves free donuts for life. Now that's a professional.

Also felt like pointing out that Mr Kostric's holster looked a little sloppy...

I do really like the point being made that not only are gun-carriers not bad, but more people should carry openly, when legal and practical, so the sight of a gun stops being so scary to the sheep.

That's an understatement.
