I love the lights from the 19th. That's how they look with my glasses off.

#49/366- January 23rd: An unexpected visit from Cuddly Dudley today - while Renée was one of the last in her class to get him back when she was in grade one, Emily was one of the first to get a visit.

#50/366- January 24th: Alas, it was just a short 2-day visit and he has to go back on Wednesday...

#51/366- January 25th: An interesting winter twilight sky this evening.

#52/366- January 26th: Even puppies sometime like having a teddy bear.

#53/366- January 27th: Time to start preparing for Valentines Day...

#54/366- January 28th: It's kind of an unusual way to wash a dog, but she probably ended up just as wet as I usually do.

#55/366- January 29th: Mmmmm, muffins for a snack tomorrow.

#56/366- January 30th: The girls have started packing for their Sparks and Brownies camp this weekend.

The girls are going to camp in the dead of winter?

Beautiful twilight sky!

Given that it's 6 & 8 year old girls they take it a bit easier on them an stay in a cabin - they have some activities like snowshoeing planned for them though...

Hey Toner, there's a new Monster High doll available for Valentines and only at Walmart. Her name is Amore Cupid and she has cottencandy pink hair.

Even hiding the ads won't work because a friend at school has probably seen it. It is a cute one, not as monsterish as the others.

Good - smooth install and it works good.

The federal & provincial governments have an energy rebate program where you get some $ back if you upgrade furnaces, windows. doors, etc to cut back on wasted energy - part of the program also includes $65/low-flush toilets. We've already replaced the furnace and are replacing the sliding patio doors next week, and since we happened to see an eligible toilet model on sale for $100 I figured I'd replace the one in our main bathroom that was working pretty (ahem) crappy.

#63/365 - February 6th: It's the 100th day of school tomorrow and, as part of the special activities, Emily's class is making a special 100 day trail mix. Lots of choices available as we walked up and down the aisles at the Bulk Barn store...

#68/365 - February 11th: While we appreciated the thought, the girls didn't make the most appetizing breakfast in bed - equally attributed due to both the wilted lettuce and the fact that Renée had been carrying around her Skinny Pig on the tray the previous evening...

#71/365 - February 14th: The girls had a very good Valentine's Day at school today - both cards and fun activities in the classes.

Renée was especially happy that all but one of her classmates remembered to put the accent above the "e" in her name.

#72/365 - February 15th: Talent Show night at Sparks/Brownies - Renée showed off her comedic skills while Emily performed a dance choreography that she had put together.

#73/365 - February 16th: Suppertime at the worm farm.

#74/365 - February 17th: The girls current favorite website is Moshi Monsters, though they still spend some time at Nick Jr., Monster High and McWorld.

#75/365 - February 18th: A bit of clowning around as we're running some errands.

#76/365 - February 19th: The modern version of reading under the bedsheets with a flashlight.

#78/365 - February 21st: Renée will be taking care of "Strolich" the dog this week and keeping a daily journal of their activities together.

#79/365 - February 22nd: The girl's Brownie/Sparks group are having a "Women in our History" theme night, and as part of the event, Renée dressed in her mom's old Brownie outfit.

#80/365 - February 23rd: Snow this evening, with more to come over the next few days.

#81/365 - February 24th: In our kitchen area at work it's not unusual to see zucchini, crab apples, etc., but I don't think I've ever seen a pumpkin in February...

#82/365 - February 25th: The snowstorm continues today...

#83/365 - February 26th: We started digging out from the 15cm of snow we got over the last couple days. I tried pointing out to Renée that the sidewalk was a little ways over but she wasn't too interested...

#84/365 - February 27th: This morning I thought it was prudent to remind the girls not to lick metal poles.

#85/365 - February 28th: The coffee lines at the local Tim Horton's are longer then usual thanks to their Roll up the Rim contest. My non-winning streak continues...

#86/365 - February 29th: In the 1920's, a young Edmonton man by the name of Walter Holowach spent 6 years studying the violin in Vienna and grew to love a horse chestnut tree outside his window there. When he returned back to Edmonton he brought some chestnuts from that tree to plant, giving it a try despite being told that the climate was too cold for the type of tree. Most of the seedlings didn't survive but one did manage to grow in his yard - it is now an Alberta heritage tree and it is referred to as the “mother” horse chestnut tree in northern Alberta as it was the first one planted in Edmonton.

Community efforts helped protect and preserve the tree from developement in 1998 and it remains today hidden away in a small oasis. I paid it a short visit today while logging a small geocache close by for Leap Day...

#87/365 - March 1st: I can honestly say, I never envisioned myself hair-brushing back before we had kids. There is something satisfying, though, about turning a tangled mess of knots into sheaths of golden flax.
