ThisBlueMarble notification client
I have a custom .net program (.exe) that is built for TBM... It is a local windows program that sits in your tool bar and alerts you when a new post is made. It uses less resources than the live posts on the site, and you won't need a browser open to see notifications. If you see a post you're interested in, click on it, and your browser will open to the post. There is also a history.
On the back end, it is a tiny socket connection to poll a web service for updates.
Note: This does not show Hell/Dungeon areas. Once the client is tested and does not need additional updates, I can make another version that has access to the rest of the site.
Please try it out and let me know what you think.

If it complains about Microsoft .net framework missing, you can download it here

I have not tried it because I do not really see a use for it. Not trying to piss in your punchbowl, but there are new posts here all the time. That is a given. It seems like a solution in search of a problem. Just sayin'....

I like that I can browse other sites and still get the latest news from here.

Exactly, bg. I kept Live Posts open and checked frequently. With the notifier I don't have to keep tabbing over to that page. The box pops up, and if I am interested I click on it. If not, I just ignore it. When I am afk I open the Text Log to see what I missed - a list of recent posts that is very similar to LP - except it uses a fraction of the server resources LP does. (We have plenty, but it's always a good idea to keep the site streamlined so it is FAST!)
I like watching programs develop. It starts with an idea, then a rough but usable program, and the coders keep making improvements and tweaking and fixing bugs... until it is done. You install the final version and 10 minutes later, they tell you they have a new version... rinse and repeat.

Thanks for your efforts Jason but I'm almost always on my phone not the desktop so I probably won't use it, either. One tweak I WOULD use would be if you could make an individual thread a live post thread (thread specific). I usually keep live posts open on my phone but sometimes, like with today's shooting event, I would prefer to just keep that specific thread open and it would be great if I could toggle something to make it a live post so I didn't have to keep refreshing the page. Other than that, I like the site as it is

I like it Jason. But is there any way to reduce the size of the notification window? It takes up about 25% of the lower right screen on my Dell C600 and that gets a bit intrusive when I'm reading emails and such. But I do really like the concept and the ease of keeping up with threads I'm interested in.
