instead of path-clearing - just push the pieces in the path
and recover their position later

or change the shape while moving, variable piece-borders

or give them stalks
a chart says more than 1000 words

Rather confusing when the pawns move out of the way of the knight, then move back. I'm guessing it's because the knight cannot jump properly. Also when pieces that have been taken just move away, and then the piece that takes them moves into place. What happens if you've made a dumb move and your piece is threatened by two different opposing pieces? They can't both take it!
Where are we going, and why are we in this handbasket?
