From what I've heard Xerox is letting people go, at least in the midwest. They are pricing themselves out of business and losing accounts.

These are quite 'unexpected'. I'm sure a mid-summer snowstorm is the likely culprit.

The snowstorm will occur in the White House Press Briefing Room when the Press Secretary tries to explain next month's unemployment figures.

My company has had its workforce cut by about 50% between layoffs and not hiring to replace those leaving. Those of us left have lost benes like breaks, life insurance, 401k, direct deposit and have taken a cut in hours/vacation time.

Hewlett-Packard is expected to announce deep cuts in its workforce
Wednesday afternoon, when the world's largest personal computer and
printer maker is scheduled to release its latest quarterly results.
The payroll purge could lay off 25,000 to 35,000 workers, based on recent
media reports that quoted unnamed people familiar with HP’s plans.
The financial pressure has been building on HP since the company replaced
cost-cutting specialist Mark Hurd as its CEO amid questions about his
relationship with a former actress who worked for the company as a
contractor.
HP’s stock price [HPQ 21.78 -0.11 (-0.5%) ] has lost more than half its
value since Hurd’s resignation in August 2010. The company’s shares
closed Tuesday at $21.78.

I heard as many as 5,000 job cuts were expected to come from voluntary retirements, I'd guess those would be Old people ie, Those over 50yr..
And also that they'd combine their Printer and PC business' so I'd expect cuts within those two groups. But I'm guessing and don't really know.

I guess volitary retirement is not as popular as it was a couple of years back.
If i understood the computer sales guy i spoke to last time i bought one they do assemble them locally (he was talking about inferior parts being shipped due to the tsunami/Fukushima incident in Japan and the flooding in Thailand which was even worse).
