He may be in Darwin, but I think he's earning himself a Darwin Award. Why go to a restaurant to be insulted?

They do things a little differently in Darwin .

Quote:
The Northern Territory News was yesterday flooded with tales of stingy behaviour
and poor service at restaurants, after a story of a cafe that refused to give a
diner water with his meal.

Taking the cake for service was the now-defunct Charlie's restaurant.

A diner said that she found a cigarette butt in a jug of water brought to her table.

When she complained, the waiter said: "So what? You don't pay for water."
She explained she had already drunk some of the offending liquid.

"He gave us five bucks and told us to get out," she said.

Default "adults only" restaurants?

One of the commentors (from the article) suggested that adults only restaurants should be established and I agree. When our daughter was a toddler / young child, we took her to nice restaurants on rare occasions (family anniversary parties, etc) but when we did, we had a bag of books / small quiet toys that we would use with her (in shifts so one of us could eat). We knew it was our responsibility to work at keeping her quiet by entertaning her and keeping her occupied. Taking a young child to a nice restaurant is not and should not be relaxing for the parents, it's a lot more work to keep a child quiet in that environment than a meal at home because its the parents job to keep the kid quiet in that type of environment.

At this point, when I see parents walk into a nice restaurant with their kids, I check for a bag of stuff to kkep the kid occupied and if I don't see one and the kids are seated near me, I usually ask to be moved.

At this point in life, I'd pay extra to go to an adults only restaurant just to get some peace & quiet.
