I looked at one of their local sites and I was impressed.
I understand the reasons why, but the main reason that local newspapers are dying is because they don't have enough reporters doing the grunt work of going to city council meetings, going down to the jail to see who got arrested last night, etc. It appears that they are filling this niche by hiring the reporters who used to do these kinds of things for newspapers.
