The film industry is using pirate tactics to beat the pirates – by employing “cyber hitmen” to launch attacks that take out websites hosting illegal movies.
Girish Kumar, managing director of Aiplex Software, a firm in India, told this website that his company, which works for the film industry, was being hired - effectively as hitmen - to launch cyber attacks on sites hosting pirated movies that don't respond to copyright infringement notices sent to them by the film industry.
Kumar said 95 per cent of sites hosting illegal movies co-operated with notices, but a few - mostly sites hosting torrents and used primarily for illegal content - did not.
....
"We find the hosting [computer] server and send them a copyright infringement notice because they're not meant to have those links. If they don't remove [the link] we send them a second notice and ask them [again] to remove it."
He said that if the provider did not do anything to remove the link or content hosted on its site, his company would launch what is known as a denial-of-service (DoS) attack on the offending computer server.

You know, if the entertainment industries (movie, TV, music) would have gotten their acts together sooner, I believe most, like myself, would be quite happy to PAY to download this stuff. But noooooooo...
So, what's better? Me waiting gawd knows how long to buy the DVD of Sons of Anarchy's third season, or letting me download the show right now while it's playing on cable tv in the US, or downloading free, pirated versions of the episodes uploaded by other viewers?
For gawd sake, people, catch the F up to the rest of the world, I've already paid for the first two seasons of DVDs!

And thank gawd streaming Netflix is coming to Canada. No more going to Blockbuster or Rogers to find out they only have one Blu Ray copy of a movie, and it's out.

4chan Attack Brings Down MPAA Website
4chan Attack Brings Down MPAA Website4chan and movie piracy are closely linked: Many of the anarchic message board's users frequent sites like the Pirate Bay to download movies they can watch alone in their parents' basement. Now, 4chan is attacking the champions of anti-piracy efforts.
The Motion Picture Association of America's website has been down since this morning, felled by a malicious flood of traffic co-ordinated by 4chan. (A similar attack brought down Gawker briefly this summer.) The assault appears to be in retaliation for the CEO of an Indian tech firm boasting that his company launches similar attacks on movie pirating websites like The Pirate Bay at the behest of film studios. That company's website was quickly brought down, as the panicked CEO tried to backtrack from his comments.
Last night, in an announcement circulated on 4chan and the web, a change of target was announced:
We target the bastard group that has thus far led this charge against our websites, like The Pirate Bay. We target MPAA.ORG! The IP is designated at "216.20.162.10″, and our firing time remains THE SAME. All details are just as before, but we have reaimed our crosshairs on this much larger target. We have the manpower, we have the botnets, it's time we do to them what they keep doing to us.
REPEAT: AIPLEX IS ALREADY DOWN THANKS TO A SINGLE ANON. WE ARE MIGRATING TARGETS.
