It's a strong winter storm here. A foot and a half of snow. Strong winds. Occasional white outs. Driving is difficult. This ain't the worst and it wont be the last storm like this.
Had to drive down to the coast this morning with a buddy. Miserable drive. Blizzard conditions.
It should be over by nightfall here.

funny you should say that
The state supreme court just ruled one has up to 6 hours to clear their driveway,

People were stranded on buses, unheated subway trains overnight in storm. Snowplows were prevented from clearing streets by cars abandoned by their drivers.

Did ya'll see that heavy duty snow removal equipment out and about? There was nothing remotely like that out here during our last storm.Wow, I bet they even salt the roads there... Michigan Be careful ya'll on the East coast. Walk like a penguin, eh?

Well, we're dug out up here on the hill in Northwest CT...the snow stopped falling around 10 AM yesterday (I think--it was hard to tell with the wind blowing it around) We plowed the driveway 4 times, but we probably could have gotten away with 2--my 15 year old son was doing the plowing in his bronco...a junker he bought over a year ago that he's been working on ever since...it's finally running, and he couldn't wait for the first storm so he could drive it The wind is still blowing pretty hard up here, but the snow isn't drifting as much--it seems to be packed down harder now. All in all, we really didn't get that much snow--Only about 18 inches. I've seen a lot worse here. My yard and deck are bare...it all drifted into the driveway and against the house.

A bit of snow here in the Seattle area, albeit much, much less. We had snow and graupel here this morning and are getting some more this evening. Amazing how just the smallest amount puts the drivers here in a complete tizzy. Even when it is not sticking. I witnessed a pretty bad accident between a Subaru and Volvo coming down the grade from the plateau. The Subaru driver was riding the Volvo's ass, and couldn't stop when the Volvo slammed on his brakes on an ice patch. Guess AWD doesn't help much if you drive like a numbnut. I drive very defensively around here, in constant fear.

Another disastrous morning on the King County roads. When will people get a clue that you can't tailgate on ice with frozen brakes? I swear I saw a meat wagon at one accident, but my wife swears it was just an ambulance.

I know, eh? People in Vancouver, BC don't know how to drive in even the smallest amount of snow. They drive stoopid.

Even here in eastern Ontario, Ari, people seem to 'forget' from winter to winter. Still a ton of folks who honestly think all season radials are fine in winter - they're not. Most don't carry emergency kits. They don't leave enough room between vehicles...
Takes a few storms before they start 'getting it'.

Or a few accidents :/. My mom doesn't roll like that - she learned to drive in the N. Idaho winters so she gets snow tires put on every winter, carries emergency stuff in her trunk etc.

Looks like we missed out on Seattle's snowfall by one day. Given the traffic there, I'm thankful. That east coast storm seems to be pulling Gulf moisture and temps our way...we've had rain all day, temps just above freezing, so every drop that hits the ground is freezing, or preparing to freeze. It's about to turn deadly here. I'd rather 3 feet of snow.

When people get up on my ass, I touch the brake pedal just enough to activate the brake lights. They back off, then drift in closer again. I then flash my brake lights a few times, and they finally get the message and back off. If that does not do it after three or four times, I just slow way down. If they will not keep a safe following distance, then I will reduce the speed to one safe for that shorter spacing between the cars. Then they can either pass, back off, or get pissed. Tough sh*t if they do not like it.

My DH does similar things, Ought. The way people drive on the freeway (highway?) into Denver terrifies me...

Another major winter storm is moving across the midwest and south, headed for the northeast. Airports are closed, and heavy snow is expected.

It started around rush hour this morning in NJ. The salt trucks and plows weren't out yet, but traffic sure was. SIL was on duty in the hospital and said there were a lot of accidents, slips and falls, heart attacks and the usual snow related incidents. DD gave herself a delayed opening and when her boss slid his way into the office he called and told her to make it a snow day. Total wasn't much... around 6 - 8" and much lighter now. But the roads are a mess still.
Lilly, Exodia, and all our members in that area... stay home, stay warm, and stay safe.

Thanks FB, DS and I actually headed south for the weekend, and traveled between the snow Friday morning and Saturday (which was another 3 or 4 inches).
Now, we are on tap for another 5-10 tonight.

More snow here, maybe only six inches or so but this storm was not half as bad as the last storm. Lost electricity for only 10 hours this time. I appreciate our woodstove and promised it that I wouldn't complain when we have 8 cords of wood to cut and it's 98*F with 100% humidity this summer.
