Damn. They don't have tomorrow's sales online yet. DD#2 has a job delivering newspapers and flyers, so I'll check when they get here...should be any time now.

I get coupons from save.ca. The best coupons come in the newspaper (the local one). They come out about once a month.

These coupons are from P&G. I have a bunch in my wallet right now. They put out a lot of buy1get one free's. I have some right now, buy 1 Tide or Downy and get $5.00 off the second. They are great to use at Wally World, the Tide there is just over $5.00....so buy one get one free really. I buy the larger jugs of Tide at Costco when they go on sale, but these are good for the Tide with bleach for me.

They had coupons about a month ago. Buy 3 Secret deodorants get $7.00 off. I think I paid 26 cents each for them after coupon at WallWorld. I bought 6 for DD.I prefer my soft&dry aerosol.
I would imagine these coupons are all over Ontario. They sneak them into the very small Tuesday paper.

I went through them the other day, AG...nothing I use in ours. Can't use Tide...bad reaction.

I just made up my list...Basics and No frills have 500g cheese on for $4.44, so I'll be filling the freezer again...we only have one block left. Berries ARE 1.99 at Basics, so I'll have to be there right at 8 am. Pineapples on for 1.67, chicken breasts on 6.11kg...guess tomorrow night dinner will be chicken with pineapple, Frank's hot sauce and mozarella. I'll make some of that 0.88 pasta from the last few weeks, toss with olive oil, chopped fresh tomatoes, and some basil. There...grocery list AND a meal planned.

Buying big navel oranges for 99cents a lb. A chinese girl was buying a dozen of them, so it must be a decent price. I bought three, if they are juicy and sweet I'll buy more tomorrow. Greek yoghurt with wild berry, acai, pomoganite, less than half price, cottage cheese ditto.

Today went to a raw foods lecture and demo so had a large helping of nut something or other (ground pecans, walnuts, oranges etc) and shredded raw beets, apples and cucumber mixed on two large beautiful red lettuce leaves. Free. More work than I would do, and while it was good it didn't seem worth it, though it is super healthy.. Though I ate two helpings plus a blueberry raw foods desert, I was still hungry and went and bought a greasy fried chicken wing. I simply wasn't satisfied with the raw food, though it was beautfully prepared and presented.

I am trying to keep my lunches healthy and satisfying but down to 1.50.. or a bit more... Tomorrow at Seniors it is International food day, jambalaya etc. Lunch there has become my main meal a few days a week. I'm glad I stumbled on these lunches for seniors. They are well worth the extra gas I use to get to the center..

A bit of muesli and milk or a sausage patty for breakfast, and for dinner, some kind of fruit, plus some laughing cow (25cents a wedge) cheese, or something inexpensive, depending on how hot or cold it is.. I'm cutting out the coffees as I use far too much half and half. Too many calories, so I'm switching to cold teas for the spring and summer. Will be cutting out fruit juices as too caloric. I want thrift, good nutrition plus tasty and satisfying food, and I don't want to gain weight... As I want to slim down for summer, I'll be watching sugar intake. Had a 99 cent Dunkin doughnut warm croissant with chicken salad from a coupon. last nite.. Have one more coupon. The coupons come in Sundays paper which cost $2, but the coupons net you far more savings, if you actually use them or have use for the products.

I was successful in buying 10 bags of frozen berries. $30 savings...ka-ching. Would have grabbed more, but there were lots of pensioners there, and we're not on a limited income like they are. If I get a chance, I'll go back late today, and grab more if there are any left.

Price of Tomatoes Has a Lot to Do With These Thefts
http://www.nytimes.com/2011/04/15/bu...s.html?_r=1&hp

The high price of produce, especially for tomatoes after the deep winter freezes, has attracted more than heightened attention from consumers. A ring of sophisticated vegetable bandits was watching, too.

Those navel oranges were the best I've eaten for this year.

Going to buy a dozen more. Far, far , far more satisfying than the much cheaper juices. Only other juice I had that was as good was a very expensive, though on sale, blood orange juice.

Every month has it great fruit buy for its taste and price. The most expensive is not always the best.

Yeah, lilly, the navel oranges are really good this year. I've been buying them by the bag for almost two months, and DH devours them as quickly as I bring them in.

Just got back from the second store...one I don't usually shop in. No Frills, where the customers will run you down. Got 6 500g cheddars, and 5 mozzarellas for 4.44 each, regular price anywhere from 6.49 to 9+, depending on the store and brand. I don't know how many times I heard people comment OMG why is it so busy right now, so many must be feeling the pinch, they had some good sales.

Something must be going on with carrots here. I went to the store that always has the cheapest prices on vegies and their carrots are now 3lbs for $3.59. I dug out my receipt and just a month ago I paid $0.79 for the same bag.

For years cukes have been 2 for $1.00 during the winter and 4 for $1.00 in the summer. Now they are $1.00 each and are the size of pickling cukes. Green cabbage is usually between $0.39 and $0.59 a pound. It has gone up to $1.29 a pound.

Our carrots just went up from $1.49/3 lbs. to $1.99 for the same amount. Cooking wine... from $4.99/bottle to $5.99.

One piece of good news - Mexican produce has dropped back to normal levels. A small head of lettuce is only .97 cents as opposed to $2.79 a few months ago. Tomatoes are again reasonable - all produce from Canada/US/Mexico is back to reasonably decent pricing.

Speaking of carrots...I haven't seen a 5 lb. Bag for close to a year. Did they get hit by the secret shrink-ray gun, like my spaghetti sauce and yogurt?

Cool, wet weather halts Midwest corn planting. Not good, because corn is feed for a lot of livestock, a major ingredient in processed foods, and the major source of the ethanol that makes up 10% of a lot of our gasoline that we buy. And corn prices going up will drive up the price of other grains as well.

A week or so ago had some first of the season crop of corn. Gol darn sweet and succulent. Not a bad price either at 3 for $1.00.
Gallon milk has spiked at $2.99 suddenly, where everywhere had it a couple weeks ago at $1.99.

I just cannot get used to paying a buck each for a lemon. Imagine how much it would cost to make a pitcher of lemonade.

Junk food vs Sirloin

Four cheeseburger combos = $25

2 lb prime Sirloin, 4 baking potatoes, 1 large packaged salad, 1 loaf of french bread = $19

Today the cukes were $2.00 each and about 4 inches long. No cukes for the vegie platter this year.

I got lucky today, took DH out for his daily walk at the grocery store and found they had marked down Rice Krispies to $.99 a 12oz box. I bought two.
