Trying to get info. CNN saying it shook a few minutes. Showing a city with a large fire - not sure which city.

not sure what city is being shown but a bunch of cars are in a harbour - looks like a marina - doesn't look like there was a tsunami but I'm not sure what's going on here.

USGS is reporting it as an 8.8 - not reviewed yet.
CNN live with this - fire in Tokyo, I think & watching tsunami roll in to... not sure.
Widespread tsunami warnings to most of Pacific.

There was some mention that it may have been 8.8 but the man being interviewed said that was unlikely

UPDATED -- A major earthquake has hit Japan this evening creating a massive tsunami up to 10 metres high which is currently roaring down the coastline taking boats, cars and powerlines with it.
This is unfolding right now.
It is late in the afternoon on Friday local time.
USGS has just said the earthquake has been upgraded to an 8.8 quake at a depth of 24 kms to the north east of Japan.
CNN reporting Tsunami Watches now in force for eastern Russia, Hawaii, Indonesia, Marshall Islands and Papua New Guinea and the Philippines.

Buoy measuring the tsunami wave at 3.5' amplitude AT SEA. Will be much higher if/when it hits.

Watching the tsnuami wave inland - unfreaking-real.
Not to want to add to food woes but it swallowed up a ton of farmland & continues to do so. Boats are still being carried inland - hundreds of polytunnels of crops being engulfed. Fires - I can't believe what I'm seeing live.

The moon will pass just 221,567 miles away on March 19 - its closest for 18 years.

5 Nuclear Power Stations turned off............. There is a stong probability that a tsunami will reach the West Coast of U.S.A. .......Tsunami alerts down my way too.
