I am not a good chili maker! so I went on the search for a chili recipe... decided to try the 'chili queen chili' recipe with meat, lard, chili spices, onions, and garlic.
on my goodness! I was very surprised at how good it was. Of course my hand got tired of dicing everything but it was so worth it.
I love the Tex Mex chili I had in San Antonio and this was very close.
So tonight we had chili.

Tuesday night we had boneless pork ribs. We actually had a couple left over and had those tonight for dinner.

waiting on the dough to finish rising, then going to make homemade sourdough pepperoni pizza and a spinach salad from the garden, without any maters...looking forward like always to that first tomato sandwich!

Tonight it was rib-eye steak, wild mushrooms and risotto.
Blueberry wine to help it go down.
Fifty-eight candles to help set the mood...

Thursday night we had baked chicken with steamed broccoli. Pretty simple fare.
Last night was store bought pizza...even simpler fare.

Thank you ladies!
Yep. I survived another year. I'm a little slower and a little more careful these days but what the heck, the girls say it's one of my best features...

The ham is in the oven. I'm basting it with a mixture of 7up, pineapple juice and a pinch of ground cloves. This year we are changing things up a bit and eating early. Nibbles and desert will be after dinner while we are watching the game.

Planned a big dinner with the kids, then the power went out and we had to cancel it. Took dad to town and we had chinese buffet.

Had a quieter day today just the in-laws and a neighbor.Boy that old fella knows everything about this area. Anyhoo, heads up on a Cooks brand hickory smoked spiral ham.Smoke flavor was nice, ham looked good at first but very fatty inside dammit! Barely had enough meat for everyone but plenty of sides. Why oh why did I make that Ambrosia fruit salad for DH ? Went and walked at the lake cemetary afterwards about a mile and a half. There were at least 10 walkers there. Somebody told of my secret place!

We had cereal for dinner tonight. Then I baked a loaf of bread. Didn't bake it quite long enough. The loaf collapsed after I took it out of the oven. Next time I will bake it a bit longer.

Chicken Cordon Bleu with fresh broccoli and a marinated salad of cucumbers and bull briar tips. It was lovely.

Baked another loaf of bread and this one came out so much better. We had grilled cheese for dinner tonight. I have to get DH to bring something up from the freezer.

I made salmon patties again (I have been on a salmon kick lately). Also, I made fresh green beans, corn on the cob, and baked sweet potatoes. Oh, and I cut up a pineapple that came from Costa Rica (lots of food miles on that one). The vegetables (I am pretty sure) were grown in the US, which were quite expensive. I made all that before 0500am. And that is what I also had for breakfast, not bad. When it gets daylight, I was planning to pick the spinach in the garden before it bolts and make a spinach quiche for the freezer. We'll see how that goes. In the meantime, I've got to clean up the mess I made in the kitchen...

We're finally getting some nice spring weather around here. Long over due and greatly appreciated.
Friday was one of those days so when evening arrived I headed down to my favorite fishing bridge on the coast, set up shop and did some fishing. As the night progressed a few more fishermen showed up. Seemed everyone had a bottle of one kind or another. By midnight I had my limit of two striped bass.
Sooo...last night I grilled a nice fillet along with some asparagus and topped it with orange/saffron butter.
It was a little bit of heaven.
