Holy crap!
Did Erica marry then divorce VERY eligible male in town? I watched AMC off & on for a few years. I may end up watching it again this summer just so I can give it a proper snivelly send off in September.
I wonder what the viewer demographics for soaps are these days? I don't have a clue.

I've been watching All My Kids for over 30 years. My DD got hooked about 6 months ago and we now watch it together..
This is a very, very sad day..... What will I do without my Pine Valley family....and Erica.... I'll miss her weddings.
Shit.

She's marrying Jack again right now. They are all down south on an island...That's if Caleb doesn't get to her first...she really loves Caleb, but she's in denial....

Now you have Reality T.V..
It used to be like an extended family for some women. Beautiful women, handsome men, beautiful homes, exciting complications, glamour that was lacking in most of our lives. I was busy during the day so never watched, and T.V. wasn't my thing anyway.
I knew and interacted with people that looked like and lived lives like those on the soaps, though my own life isn't and wasn't that exciting, so I didn't get hooked on T.V.. Just watching their lives unfolding was enough. The soaps aren't all that far from reality.

Might I suggest that you check out telenovelas for your soap opera needs?
My understanding is that the novelas have better plots perhaps because like most good stories they have a beginning and an end.

My DW and I watch it together after she comes home from work. Years and years ago, I used to think it was nothign more than wasted time, but I watch it as avidly as she does now.
She just about had a cow when she heard ABC was planning to replace it with something like "The Chew." (Ugh)
I bet there will be boycotts and protests to keep AMC and OLTL both on the air.

Will there be any soaps left after they go? They yanked my As The World Turns lat year...but I had given it up 5 or 6 years earlier. Kinda' sad...lots of very good actors cut their teeth on soaps before moving on. On ATWT I remember watching the early years of Julianne Moore, Parker Posey, Marissa Tomei, just to name a few. The genre was quite demanding of them.

Are those the South American ones? Brazilian? I watched a few in the early 90s in southern Ontario. They weren't in English, or subtitled. All the Italian women I worked in a garment factory watched them. They were a little spicier but I just couldn't get past the language barrier.
Everyone could switch to Coronation Street...can't imagine the Brits ever cancelling that. It wasn't bad a few years ago when I watched it.
