A Timaru gynaecologist wants a campaign against promiscuity after encountering a shocking number of pregnant patients who cannot remember whom they had sex with.

Dr Albert Makary, who has been in Timaru for 20 years, called on national leaders, sports stars, schools and the media at a Forum on the Family in Auckland yesterday to "stigmatise" both promiscuity and the binge drinking that usually preceded it.

Laws probably require the woman to legally chase the
father for child support if she knows who he is .

But Govt benefits available if no male visible who can provide support .

In reality he is known and may be working or on unemployment benefits .
He probably even lives with the female.

When looked at in this context it is to the Mother's ECONOMIC BENEFIT TO HIDE the identity of the father since she will then receive a HIGHER economic return.

Firstly it must be stated that I am ignorant of NZ law but suppose it
is similar to that of Australia.

If the couple are living together and the lady identifies the male
he will be deemed partially responsible for looking after the child .
In practice that means part of his earnings must be paid to her
and she consequently receives less from the government .
So the combined income of the household is substantially less .

I believe also that the amount paid to a single person is greater
per person than the amounts paid to a family unit on a per person
basis ( but I am uncertain ) .

Alcohol laws in NZ were "liberalised" ten years ago. The age one could purchase alcohol was dropped to 18 as was the drinking age in hotels and bars. Bars close about dawn.
Laws relating to public drunkenness, vagrancy, and drinking in public were scrapped.

It isn't uncommon to find blind drunk semicomatose young females through downtown NZ in the early hours of the morning Friday to Sunday. Certainly they couldn't remember whom they had sex with or how many partners. I don't think the amnesia is a ploy for benefit purposes. They are just plastered. The males seem to be able to tolerate higher alcohol levels although downtown NZ can be a violent place.
Serial binge drinking is being blamed by the Timaru gynaecologist and social workers for many of the unwanted pregnancies in NZ....the media jumped on the "promiscuity" part of the press release and ran with it.

I realize it is probably politically incorrect to ask but are you
primarily talking about the Moari population Glenn ?

I note that while they form just 14.5% of the NZ population
half the prison population identify themselves as Moari and
that the Moari population seem to indulge in heavier drinking .

Further the age distribution of the Maori population is different
(69% aged under 35 years Vs 47% aged under 35 years for non-Moari ).

Virtually all white Ross. Bimboesque types..well dressed with jobs. Maori ladies usually stick in their own areas often but not always gang controlled. Not saying they don't get up to mischief but not so publicly.
