Have you named them yet? I recommend Barbecue, Baked, and Fried.

I hadn't even thought to name them. Chicks that free range are targets for a lot of critters. These have a momma that is TOUGH and every other domestic animal on the place has already had a lesson from her. The cats are tempted but after their schooling haven't taken another look. Its quite impressive.
We're rather shocked that she went broody in all this heat and a clutch of 3 is just the right size for her first brood. She has taken them all around the place, showed them how to take a dust bath and dig in the compost pile. Its an adorable sight.

We had two go broody this year. One hatched out nine or ten and the other only hatched two. I think we screwed her up by moving her late in the game.

The chicks are going strong! Mainly its because of their Boogerfied mother. She's a tough bird and will not tolerate any shenanegans from the other critters. She parades those chicks everywhere and the other animals just cringe at the sight of them. She'll walz those babies right up and over (literally) the cats and noone dares make a move against it! They are starting to feather out nicely. We think they stand a good chance of making it. That momma is very impressive. Thank you Boog!

Glad she's doing well for you! Our Buff Orp mama is also a terrific mother. Unlike the stupid Light Brahma mama we had. She was such a hussy and a bad mother. Didn't care a lick for her chicks. She ended up dying when they were a few weeks old. I suspect it was a drug overdose during one of the drunken orgies she threw.
