The Banishment of Beauty
Ever scratch your head and wonder why ugly abstract art is so popular, while beautiful paintings and the artists who make them are disdained by museums and upper crust galleries? One of the most accomplished representational artists alive today, takes them on. Worth watching just to see the beautiful works of true art...
A 4 part YouTube series by Scott Burdick.

Impressionism is art for those who can't actually draw...I love to doodle, but have no drawing talent whatsoever so i do alot of shapes and patterns and colors...I would NEVER consider myself an artist. True art makes you catch your breath at first impression. Like a great writer creates depth and individuality to their characters on paper (Pearl S. Buck comes to mind) a true artist visually stirs you to the core.
Granted I can see a place for the abstract in offices, motels or places where you just want a quiet pleasing non-obtrusive background...but I would term it decoration not art.

As Burdick states, the representative artist produces far less product for a gallery to sell, than an abstract artist does. So it makes better sense for the middle men in the art world to promote abstract art rather than representational.
Decoration is right. The crime is, this fad decoration has been pushed on the public as worthy of the same deep respect, and as worthwhile an investment, as quality art. I am absolutely THRILLED that my generation and younger is finally standing up and saying the Emperor is naked.

And here I thought it was just me thinking that modern art is butt ugly.
