Default 5.9M EQ in Christchurch, NZ

No details yet. It hasn't come across my USGS feed yet.

I hope that this isn't too bad. From what I've read, there's still structural damage not repaired from the big one a while back. This one was pretty shallow which tends to make ground effects worse.

They had 3 major tremors in approx. 70 minutes.

via Twitter:

"USGS reports on NZ quakes: 5.8 at 1.58pm, 5.3 at 2.06pm, 5.8 at 3.18pm. #eqnz"

No major injuries reported but quite a bit of liquefaction flooding and some damage.

LATEST: A swarm of quakes - including a magnitude 6 and two greater than magnitude 5 - have hit Christchurch, toppling already damaged buildings, injuring residents and disrupting power, phone services and retailers.

http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/6184...s-Christchurch
The quake came 10 months after a 6.3 quake hit the city killing about 180 people.
In fact since September 4 2010 they have had almost 8,000 aftershocks.
