I've got the flu....
Let me start by saying that I did get the flu shot. I had a bit of a sinus infection at the time but none the less.... I got it.
Last Tuesday night I went to bed feeling fine. I woke up in the night and felt like a Mac truck had run me down. I had ( have) severe ....and I mean severe body aches, severe headache, chills, the likes I have never known, followed by sweats.I swear, my hair hurts! I have been living on ginger ale, toast, flu meds and Tylenol.
I don't remember ever having anything quite like this before. I can't go in the kitchen, the light coming in the window kills me and it's magnified by the snow off my next door neighbors roof.
DH finally convinced me to go to the clinic today. He was so insistent that he left work to come home and drive me. I'm as weak as a kitten and he didn't want me driving.
The doctor checked me over, said I defiantly had the flu. She said it's probably a strain that wasn't covered in the shot. DH and DS never got it. They did get their flu shots. DD never got her flu shot and she had a mild version, only lasted about 4 days.
If I'm still sick in a week ( God forbid) I'm to go back for Blood work.... So here I lay in bed... under a mountain of blankets with my iPad ..... feeling like absolute crap. And that's putting it mildly.

Sorry to hear that Amber. I hope you feel better soon. Did you ask about Tamiflu?
Make sure after you get the tests done that you release the sequences. That would be helpful...sorry, just a little Ninman humor.

Thanks guys.... I thought at first it just a virus of sorts. If I'd known it was flu, I would have gone for Tamiflu.

I'm sorry - that is really not a 'fun' way to spend several days or more. The minute I read that your hair hurt, I knew it was flu... I remember feeling that.
It will pass - don't rush your recovery.

did you test it ? RSV and some colds can also be bad
here you can get flu-quicktests for ~$20 without prescrition
the vaccine only reduces the chance of ILI by ~20%
still very little flu in USA this season so far
flu-vaccine match should be good this year
H3N2 seems to be prevalent
who infected you

Most places here don't even waste the money now.
Why charge someone money for one when the results will come as you get better?
"Hey! You had H5N1!"
"Doc, I am already getting better."
They have to go to the state health department for the typing, you get charged and the only one who benefits is the state tracking flu.
They rarely allow a "rush" because, well, they are government employees and you have to be admitted to the hospital.

I hope you feel better soon. We were getting worried about you since you hadn't been on since Christmas.

Thank you.
The doc didn't do a test, just checked me over really well. My symptoms presented as flu. I feel like absolute hell.
Sorry I haven't been around. I took on that part time job in August and it has been anything but part time. Between that, my other job and running back and forth looking after my uncle and then my own family, I haven't had time to do much. I check the news quick at night and off to bed. I have been pretty run down which is probably why I got so sick.

Only a small ffraction of 'routine' presumptive flu patients are tested here - only enough to establish patterns. Any odd, particularly virulent or otherwise atypical case is generally tested as well & may undergo complete genetic analysis. Few samples get that star treatment though & I'm simply grateful MOST flu seasons are pretty run of the mill. It would be sheer luck to catch interesting genetic changes before they begin causing serious issues.
