I'm not sure that 1,000 people are going to be able to shut down the entire state.

Televangelist preacher Jamal Bryant vowed to “shut down Florida” at a rally on Wednesday to demand justice for slain Miami-Dade teen Trayvon Martin.

“This is a wake-up call for the state of Florida!” Bryant said. “We are going to shut Florida down until justice weighs down!”

The Baltimore preacher and leader of the Empowerment Movement spoke at a rally at the Allen Church in Sanford, Fl. in response to the Feb. 26 killing of the Michael Krop Senior High school student.

Black leaders are vowing to bring at least 1,000 protesters from around the country to a March 26 city council meeting if charges are not filed in the case.

Considering this being an election year, and Holder needing to distract from his own problems, I have no doubt that the DoJ will quickly open an investigation.

From what I've been able to gather from several reports, they probably have a very good point. The guy clearly over-reacted to the situation. I don't think evoking our stand-your-ground law is going to protect him.

Then he announced the telephone number for the Brevard and Seminole County State Attorney’s Office, and asked everyone to blast the prosecutor’s office with phone calls demanding criminal charges in the case.

You do not know the facts of the case. None of us do yet. Jumping to such a conclusion on preliminary information is silly.

Sorry, she's right on this one. This is in my back yard and has been the forefront of print and broadcast media since it happened. The guy is well screwed, which he should be. We can screen before issuing carry permits, but you can't screen out the Rambo's. This guy went way too far.

.... if the facts reporter thus far are A) correct, and B) tell the complete story. It is amazing how many times people think they have the whole story, only to find out at trial, when all the witnesses testify, that things were very different than portrayed in the media. So I will wait to see what the investigation turns up instead of jumping to what right now appears to be the obvious conclusion.

Thats pretty typical of Baxley. Ask him again tomorrow after identifying yourself as an NRA member and you'll get a different answer.

The Obamarama is fanning the racial flames so I expect to see a lot more trash talk from the DOJ and the media is trying their best to make it look like racism by labeling the shooter as "white." What should be a local murder investigation is fast turning into a national effort to enrage the racists.

It may be difficult to ever get the entire story, as one of the participants is dead. The survivors story is the only one we will hear unless there were direct eyewitnesses. The other evidence will have to be pieced together based on phone calls, 911 tapes etc. In the one 911 tape, where the woman did not want to go outside, you can clearly hear someone crying for help, multiple times. Who that turns out to be will be very important.

This case is not as easy to judge as it would seem on the surface. The shooter did follow Martin. What the initial confrontation looked like we don't know yet. From the reports I have heard, the comment from the dispatcher of "we don't need you to do that" is not a direct command by the police, so the shooter was not breaking the law by continuing to follow him.

After listening to the calls, another thing that strikes me is that people are yelling for help, and nobody wants to get involved. Not sure how long the yelling was going on for. I get not going out after the gunshot, but I just was thinking about what it says about us a society. The way we help is to call someone else.

Assuming that proves to be the case (and everything I've heard indicates it is) the shooter loses his "Stand Your Ground" protection, since he would be chasing the kid... I dunno about other people, but standing your ground doesn't include that...

I think its murkier than that. Chasing vs following. If you are tying to keep visual on him until police arrives, is that chasing? So if anyone follows me, I can then turn around and attack them and they have no right to defend themselves? Like I said , this is not quite as cut and dried as it may seem on first blush.

I heard an interview by a judge yesterday where he talks about the use of the "stand your ground law" by gang members in FLA. Some of these guys are getting off on shooting charges because they have been able to make the case that they were in fear from the other guy and had no obligation to back down, even when it was obvious that both sides had been going looking for trouble.
