One reason could be it has no real landing gear, just a skimpy nose wheel and skids, maybe the tail plane keeps the plane upright after it slows down or even be part of the skid system.
Another reason could be it makes for easy yaw control for the autopilot.
And a third reason could be a inverted Y or V tale can take over the function of ailerons in the main wing, if ailerons are left of the main wing it can be built to a much better aerodynamic shape ie. producing more lift and less resistance with out gaps and nudges the ailerons require.
