Never look for something inspiring.

Maybe they were envisioning something like this.

The mural is still in draft form as pencil sketches, he said. A portion was painted over by a custodian this week when the artist was talking to administrators about alternative endings.
Then let the custodian finish it. I would be DONE.

I would be done as well. I wish there was more detail to the story. Here's what I don't understand - the mural was APPROVED already. So why/when did the suggestion about alternatives come in? Who suggested different choices of lifestyle? If that was so important, why was another artist whose sketches depicted something different not chosen?

School covers mural for depicting a man, woman & child

Warwick School Superintendent Peter Horoschak is stepping in after a student mural at Pilgrim High School was deemed inappropriate and painted over because it depicted a man holding the hand of a woman and child.

A parent of a Pilgrim High School student who first reported the incident to WPRO's John DePetro Show. The mural was meant to depict the life of a man and it ended with the scene with the man, woman and a child. The student artist, 17-year-old Liz Bierendy, said that she depicted the man and woman has married with wedding rings. According to Horoshack’s press release the scene was painted over because “some of the members of the Pilgrim High Schoolcommunity suggested that the depiction of a young man’s development from boyhood through adulthood as displayed may not represent the life experiences of many of the students at Pilgrim High School.”

According to the release, the assistant principal approached the Bierendy after the concern was raised from the school and “asked her to look at other ways to show the outcome of the subject’s progression to adulthood.”

After consulting other administrators, Superintendent Horoschak asked the assistant principal to meet with the student again and discuss her views on the proposed changes to the mural. The assistant principal reported that the student “preferred the original idea” however she “would take the weekend to think about any changes to the original sketch.” Horoschak asked that the Bierendy’s ideas be respected and “that she be allowed to finish the mural as she visualized it.”

Sort of makes you wonder what kind of students they have at Pilgrim High School, if that isn't considered the norm.

Oh good grief - ANY of the views of the boy to man 'may not represent the life experiences of many of the students'...

We're going to pc purselves into saying nothing, seeing or hearing nothing - because nothing is made to be viewed or said - for fear it's offensive or not inclusive.

More insane, asshatted political correctness. The sad thing is that so many people will hear about ridiculous stuff like this, and nod in agreement as if it is not only appropriate, but 'the right thing to do'. There can be no depictions of life that do not promote 'alternative lifestyles' as equal or superior to the norm. To not do that would be 'insensitive', or downright bigoted in their view. If they want to think such stupid thoughts, I am fine with that. But when the push it on us all and try to force us to conform to 'correct thinking', then it is time to stand up and push back. If I was that kid's parent, I would go into the principal's office and raise holy hell. Then, I would organize like-minded parents to attend the next school board meeting and raise holy hell there, and invite the press, too. These idiots continue to do this sort of crap because we let them get away with it. That must stop.
