Secret Service Agents Sent Home From Colombia Due to Alleged Misconduct
Oh My.....
Quote:
|
The U.S. Secret Service is investigating allegations of misconduct by agents who had been sent to Cartagena, Colombia, to provide security for President Obama’s trip to a summit that began there Friday......Donovan declined to disclose details about the nature of the alleged misconduct. But Jon Adler, president of the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association, said the accusations relate to at least one agent having involvement with prostitutes in Cartagena.

Must be a slow news day.

Ross, if you see a Secret Service agents weapon, it means bad shit just happened. They do not open carry unless they are in the uniformed division, working counterfeit operations, or performing admin work. The Presidential Detail is all about discretion.
Now, what doe this indiscretion tell us about working for this President, or perhaps the current leadership of the Treasury. It is called the Secret Service for a reason. These guys and gals are pro's and shit like this does not ever leak out. I am not saying that they dont screw up, but it is usually handled much more quietly than this.

Looks like a total of 12 Secret Service agents were involved.
Secret Service confirms employees' removal - CBS News
Quote:
CBS News' senior White House correspondent Bill Plante reports that the Secret Service sent home 12 of its personnel who were replaced before the president's arrival in Colombia Friday for the Summit of the Americas.
A source in the Secret Service tells CBS News that one or more of the officers were involved with prostitutes and that there was a dispute over payment. One prostitute went to the police, who notified the State Department.

Hints now that military may also be involved.

Yup, 5 military people have been relieved - no further details but an implication that like the SS, it involves booze & hookers.

Secret Service revokes security clearances of 11 accused of misconduct
http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-201_162-...of-misconduct/
This is a career-ender, but it actually makes sense to me. Those agents were incredibly stupid to consort with hookers in a nation where all the organized crime is controlled by the cartels; the very people most like to try to assassinate the Prez there. This opened them all up to potential blackmail, getting listening and/or tracking devices planted in their clothing, 'pillow talk' information leaks, bad publicity propaganda for the enemy, and more. Their behavior shows that they cannot be trusted with classified info or the President's security detail.

Until the report of underage prostitutes I would have said that the career was salvageable.
It depends what they mean by "losing their security clearance". They surly would have lost their "Presidential Detail" ticket, but the original Top Secret would have been possible after the required adjudication process.
As long as they weren't drunk, drug addict, in financial trouble or subject to blackmail you are likely to get it back. (No special tickets like Crypto, SBI Poli, etc. however.
They would have been likely transferable to another government agency, DHS, IRS, etc. if the notoriety wasn't too bad.
