Still in their shipping crates with probably less than 50 hours (if that, if they shipped brand new, maybe less than 2 hours) of time on the airframes? This is a gold mine. One mint condition, period correct Spitfire could be worth more than 10x what this guy has spent altogether. Wow, this is just awesome!

I predict that the moment they are on British soil, the UK government will swoop in, seize them and claim them as government property, leaving the farmer with not a dime of compensation for all his efforts.

Well, according to this article, the Government has said they will make no claim to them. The USAF no longer claims USAAC/USAAF/USAF aircraft as their property, although the goddamn Navy does, dickheads (they have ducked up some really good oppurtunities for private citizens to recover aircraft - saying pretty much, go ahead, spend your asses off, but when you recover it, we still own it). And I believe the MOD has something of the same policy with regards to British WWII aircraft. It appears that there are 20 aircraft buried in this sight and they will all be headed to England.
