Because the part of Govt. that Reagan expanded was a badly neglected and out-of-date U.S. Military. Everything from new tanks, to pay raises, to new housing, uniforms, bullets, etc. Not only did we buiy stuff from the big vendors, but alot of local vendors too, plus the troops had a few extra bucks to spread around.
