Talking Upstairs Downstairs

Hot off the heels of Downton Abbey, Vision TV in Canada is starting a run of Upstairs Downstairs tonight.

I recall it being talked about but I didn't watch it - cut me some slack, I was 10 when it debuted.

I'm thrilled to see they'll run it right from the 1st episode unti... who knows? There are 68 or so episodes & I'm up for the whole lot of them!

It just had better not conflict with the next run of Downton - I am so looking forwards to that!

Masterpiece is also doing a sequel to Up/Down. There was a 3 or 4 episode mini-series shown last year and they're in production with another mini-series to show this year. Jean Marsh, who plays Rose in the original, is in the sequel.

I think you'll enjoy it. It's much more understated and not as glitzy as Downton but it was very well done for the time it was made. I think my favorite episodes are in the later seasons when it gets into life during WWI. It gives a good perspective on civilian life during that time period, which is usually not very well addressed.

Thanx for the info. I try very hard to watch TV series & movies considering the cultural context of the time in which they were made. It affects everything from script to costumes/makeup & in an original series - how a topic will behandled so as to not to upset morals & mores of the time.

I'm really looking forward to it.
