Fully automatic fire from an AR remains essentially useless, regardless of situation. It will not afford you better defense against criminals. Quick, controlled semiautomatic shots- I'll take them every time.
I have a reasonable degree of experience and expertise in the use of the AR in close quarters fighting. The shortcomings of fully automatic fire are legion.

At least in the US, it is to your advantage because of the civil courts.
Slower aimed fire lessens the chances of non-combatants and other innocents getting shot.

Yup. When I did my urban ops instructor course one of the things hammered into us - even as infantry - is 100% shot accountability. We also had classes on the penetration of various weapons through various materials. With fully automatic fire you pretty much cannot know with certainty where the second and following shots will go. Give me an AR in semi auto and I'll have bloody accurate shots off as fast as can be usefully done. I'm happy with that.
