Default Adidas Introduces Shackle Sneakers

Surprisingly, the design doesn't seem to be a hit...

Some might be taking themselves too seriously.

There must have been some heavy drinking going on in the design department at Adidas. I have seen some ugly shoes before, but those take the cake.

They were probably thinking that the shoes were so hot, that they would be choice for tennis shoe thieves, and therefore needed to be attached to the wearer permanently....

Yep, that is the metaphor. The shoes are shackled to the ankle of the owner. It is certainly a design risk that is more useful for free publicity than shoe sales.

Those that are offended are whining idiots looking for anything to justify their victimhood.

They're in honor of the Asian sweatshop kids who made them.

Not the first time they pulled a boner.

The Daily Mail gets in a reference to the "Black and Tan" shoes to celebrate St. Patrick's Day.

Quote:
In March, Nike was accused of 'huge insensitivity' for launching a £70 'beer-themed' trainer called 'The Black and Tan' in time for St Patrick's Day.

The firm apologised, saying it was an innocent name designed to chime with the often boozy celebrations for Ireland's patron saint.

To others, however, it was a historical affront reviving bitter memories of a British unit sent to Ireland to suppress revolt in the 1920s.

That is because the Black and Tans was the nickname given to the Royal Irish Constabulary Reserve Force, which became notorious for a brutal crackdown during the independence war.

One outraged Irish American claimed it was the equivalent of calling a shoe ‘the Al Qaeda’.

I was just reading a local news site and Adidas is canceling these shoes. People were having a fit and saying they are racist and evokes images of slavery. Of course Rev. Jesse Jackson had to get involved.

I can't remember if we can post straight from CNN or not so I posted in my own words.

Maybe I'm just not sensitive enough. I looked at them & thought they'd be great for thrashing through the brush or biking - would keep my pant legs from being shredded. They would also amuse my cats no end.

You could try wearing bands of sticky paper like they have for putting around trees to prevent the ants from bringing the aphids up.
