Default Are GM Food Crops Safe?

http://earthopensource.org/index.php...etic-engineers

“Research studies show that genetically modified crops have harmful effects on laboratory animals in feeding trials and on the environment during cultivation. They have increased the use of pesticides and have failed to increase yields. Our report concludes that there are safer and more effective alternatives to meeting the world’s food needs.”

Long report. I`ll start wading through it once the great grands go home. Hard to concentrate with a 1 and 3 year old.

The key points are not news to most of us.

Exactly

Genetic engineering as used in crop development is not precise or predictable and has not been shown to be safe
point #1. Genes get around at a much higher rate then we assumed and we don't have a good idea of what we are doing anyway. Out in the field nature abhors a vacuum so all kinds of resistant pest turn up anyway.

Most other points are familiar or follow from that.

Actually it's hubris. The last green evolution was combining natures best solutions in a rather old fashioned way. The new method is splicing some resistance gene into the plant, sell the patented non reproducing stuff and the pesticides that go with it.

It's a monopoly for the companies which can't work out as a way to optimize results for us consumers.

It also promotes monocultures which is always a bad idea.

One more reason to keep organic crops, and heirloom products alive in our gardens.

Be Aware the need to deflect awareness away from the oblivious.

And If you do get to heaven, most of the souls there will be very thin as they died from famine ,
And in the lite conversation with them of, "Oh, How did you you Die", you'll be able to say, "I ate so much that killed myself,,
