Abandoned WalMart? No problem
Make it into the largest single story library in the US.
Registration by first time patrons went up 23% the first month after opening.

The International Interior Design Association recently selected the McAllen Public Library as the winner of their 2012 Library Interior Design Competition. The city inherited the former Wal-Mart after the retailer closed the store and abandoned it. The decision was made to reuse the structure and create a new main library within. Meyer, Scherer & Rockcastle, Ltd. of Minneapolis were selected to design the interior of the building which the city required to be functional, flexible and affordable to construct. For a library, the existing 124,500 square foot space is huge. That’s the size of about 2 1/2 football fields making the new library the largest single-story location in the US.

McAllen, Texas?
Being Canadian, I am afraid you would die from the heat, unless you stayed inside 10 months of the year.

I love when buildings otherwise left vacant and deteriorating are given a productive second life!
It's a win-win scenario for all!
Down where we live, several HUGE commercial grocery stores have been converted in medical clinics. The additional pluses to no longer being vacant and an eyesore, is that the structures are well located in population areas, have plenty of patient parking and inside are great because the waiting areas are bright, airy and comfortable for the patients.
Unless one knew what the structure had been before, they do such great redesigns, you can't tell what it was in its former life
