Detroit PD uses the Smith & Wesson M&P series of pistol. They're double action only and have only had external safeties for a few years. 6.5lb trigger pull over about 0.3" of pull. So a fairly short trigger pull, but not a particularly light one. So if it was gripped through clothing just right it could potentially cause a trigger squeeze. It's a bizarre set of circumstances though.

What are we talking about? A detective with a pistol in an under the armpit holster?
Some kind of automatic like a Colt .45 in "Condition 1"?
Even then, unless the holster is cut down, modern holsters usually have trigger guards, etc.
