Default Denise Rich Hoofs It Out Of The US

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/...XkYW_blog.html

Yeah, no loss, but this guy is:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/busine...oIU_story.html

And so are most of the 1800 people who did the same thing last year, the highest number in history (it was 502 in 2009). And, it's starting to look like a good idea, not only on its face, but because of the increasingly tight Iron Curtain that the US is erecting to keep money from leaving, from "exit taxes" (shades of Nazi Germany), to blackmail of foreign financial institutions that is increasingly making US citizens pariahs.

Money goes where it's treated well. And, hell, who wants to share a country with this dirtbag?

Don't forget there was, maybe still is, a proposal in Congress that if you give up your US Citizenship you are NEVER allowed back into the US, even for a short visit.

Welcome to MY life. I've bitched about it before. The US has a grand way about it...deny dual citizenship in the early 90s (remember anchor babies), then 20 years later state that info from the State Dept. was wrong, you should have been paying taxes all those years. And by the way, now you need to file these FBARS now, as well.

In 1992, upon asking, the State Dept. told me I was not a citizen, despite being born in the US, to two Canadian parents. Conveniently, they stated that because I'd voted in Canadian elections (lived here since I was a baby), I'd relinquished my citizenship. State Dept. also says, if employee gives me wrong info, too bad, file taxes, FBARs, pay up. How convenient that they are not held responsible for their lies. Now, if you want to relinquish your citizenship, if you don't wish to incur thousands each year to have your US taxes done, you must pay $450, go through not one, but TWO trips to a consulate, TWO interviews, and file threeyears worth of taxes and FBARs. THEN, even though you've done EVERYTHING they want, you can still be denied entry to the US, under Reid (Reed?). Guess I won't be shopping across the river in Michigan, sending my daughter to the university there, vacationing in Florida or vegas.

I was not anti-American until just recently. Wonder why? Just imagine...the only reason I'm goung through this shit is because my father chose to serve in the US Navy in the 60s, so I was born in the US. I have never had a US passport, social security nimber, nor received ANY benefit from the US.

The American gov't can kiss my CANADIAN ass.

There seem to be a lot of American accents on the streets of Melbourne
lately .

I wonder why Severin didn't go back to Brazil. That is a happening place, these days. Taxes are lower too,, I bet.

Well then you should still be in good standing if you ever happen to want to run for POTUS

Seriously though, what you're going through is all about the government grabbing every penny they can from every source they can. And as it happens it's easier for them to go after an honest person who lacks the economic and political clout to tell them to 'stuff it'.

As far as government employees either providing bad information or is too often the case (IMO) not being qualified for the position they're in; they're held harmless for their actions or problems caused by them. Happens on all levels of government.

Currently I'm dealing with a state court order issued in a small county which the federal government does not recognize, and the process to get the state court order closed, as the federal authority takes prescidence, is a PITA. More so since I only sought the court order because a VA employee said I had to as they would only recognize a DPOA when it suited their agenda.

A case of left hand not knowing what the right hand was doing and mid-level dipstick federal employees getting (IMO) their their petty power trip, jollies .

So I can sort of relate to your problems.

Just try to remember that the US government is not representative of Americans. We're like any other group or nationality: Got our good and bad but over all, are pretty decent sorts

NV, I know. I don't hate you guys.

I'm currently trying to figure out what to do. If I just never set foot in the US, I should be fine. Screws me if a flight is ever diverted from/to elsewhere, though. If I relinquish or renounce, may not be able to get in anyway, even after all the filings, and big bucks. Or, I could remain dual, and pay, and file FBARs every year, but still be able to cross the border.

Sucks.

Sorry.

I thought the title said Denise Richards.

I was on a totally different train of thought.

Unlikely, unless you go through a citizenship application, like anyone else. That said, if you are a productive member of society, I don't think it's difficult to become a Canadian citizen. Had one or both of your parents been Canadian, they could have applied to have your birth registered abroad, which should have given you automatic citizenship. That was my situation. Canada has recognized, and allowed, dual citizenship much more reliably than the US. Probably because, until the 50s or 60s, Canadians were considered British subjects, not Canadian citizens. Or so I understand it.

Another Canadian trying to get out of paying their 'fair share' (TM). Typical.

Perhaps all Canadians should be paying the US taxes for the privilege of being on our border. Just to be fair...

Maybe I should drive across the border, avail myself of some Medicare, apply for unemployment, and grab myself some food stamps, on the way back.
