OK... Fartlett Major & I watched the DVD this weekend and our assessment of the movie version:

"Didn't suck as nearly much as we thought it would."

Pro:
Bella was did a respectable job.
Alice was a hottie.
The high school mortal friends were pretty good at being high school mortals.

Con:
Dr. Cullen... WTF? In fact, some serious work needs to be done on all the vampire clan.
The vampires' hyperspeed movements -- cheesy and disappointing.
The direction. A lot of missed opportunities and mishandled scenes.

Surprises:
The badonkadonk on Rosalie. The ultimate undead goddess/ubersuccubus has some serious junk in the trunk. Elk's blood goes right to her thighs.

Jury's out:
Edward. Was better than the posters and promos suggested (Queer Eye for the Vampire Guy! Emo!! Sewer Dude from Escape From New York!!!), but given how utterly horrible those looked, that's not saying too much.

Verdict:
Meh.

Stephenie Meyer Accused Of Plagiarizing Novel For 'Breaking Dawn'

Jordan Scott claims book is very similar to her 2006 novel 'The Nocturne.'

By Gil Kaufman

There are some things you can always count on in one of today's modern vampire novels: a breathless, cross-species love affair, bone-breaking lovemaking, lots of smoldering eyes and buckets of spilled blood. But, according to TMZ, an author named Jordan Scott claims she saw a few too many similarities between her 2006 vamp tale, "The Nocturne," and "Twilight" scribe Stephenie Meyer's 2008 book, "Breaking Dawn."

In a cease-and-desist letter obtained by the site, Scott's publisher claims the fourth book in the "Twilight" series has "striking and substantial" similarities to "The Nocturne," part of a trilogy that 21-year-old musician/author Scott began writing when she was 15.

The letter claims there are a number of coincidences in the plotlines of the books, including a wedding, a post-wedding sex scene, a woman becoming sick because she's carrying a child with "evil powers" and the death of a main character. The letter from a lawyer for Scott also claims that "both the ideas and in many instances the text" of the two books are very similar.

Among the examples of the similarities is a scene in which a main character is ill from carrying a child with dark powers. In Scott's book, the description reads in part, "Her face was so pale, it was frightening; and there were beads of sweat pouring down her forehead. She couldn't even stand, she was so weak. ... She was violently ill, vomiting and scarcely able to catch her breath."

In the allegedly similar scene in "Dawn," Meyer writes: "Most of her dark hair was pulled away from her face into a messy knot, but a few strands stuck limply to her forehead and neck, to the sheen of sweat that covered her skin. There was something about her fingers and wrists that looked so fragile it was scary. She was sick. Very sick."

The dozen examples given by Scott's lawyer display some general similarities in tone and setting common to vampire tales, but, according to TMZ, an unnamed representative for Meyer dismissed the accusation. "The claim that 'Breaking Dawn' by Stephenie Meyer somehow infringes on an alleged book by someone named Jordan Scott is completely without merit. Neither Stephenie Meyer nor her representatives had any knowledge of this writer or her supposed book prior to this claim."

Spokespeople for Scott and Meyer could not be reached for comment at press time

Apparently, there is going to a Twilight MMORPG. So, you know, 30-something moms can spend some quality time with their tween daughters.

The ultra violent honeymoon sex and the birthing bleed out should be awesome.

The first one was pretty much the same... looks like it will be a big hit with the vamptweenies.

Teen girls soft porn.

The local media did interviews at the first showing last night. About 10 screens were sold out almost exlusively to teen girls.

Also interviewed were two teen males. They came in for the "chick pickup lines". Probably working the girls in the theatre. Hey, you go fishing where the fishing is good, right?

Speaking of teens, isn't it a school night? Why were they there?

That's why Fartlett Major slogged through those atrocious books.

Fart didn't raise no fools.

Come for "New Moon" premiere, get a "Vampire Intervention"

Some NSFW language

Hilarious that some of the fans remain utterly clueless to what's happening

You know, regardless of the film, if I had been looking forward to a night at the theater, and somebody pulled a stunt like that, I would be really POed.

I promised the girls I'd take them to go see the movie, but our local theater will not have the movie for another 3 weeks, although the movie is starting tonight in some cities. The idea of being packed into a theater with so many people makes me turn pale and want to hide.

Charged With Felony After Taping 4 Minutes Of "New Moon"
By Meg Marco on December 3, 2009 1:05 PM 0 views

The Sun-Times is reporting that a 22-year-old Chicago woman has been arrested and charged with a felony after taping 4 minutes of "New Moon" during her sister's surprise 29th birthday party.

Managers saw the woman taping and called the police, who examined the camera (a digital still camera that also takes short video segments) and say they found “two very short segments” that totaled no more than 4 minutes.

The alleged felony movie-taper says she was taking pictures of her family before the film and that nobody warned her.

From the Sun-Times:

“We sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to her in the theater,” Tumpach said.

She also took pictures of family members in the theater before the film began, but an usher who saw the photo session never issued them a warning, Tumpach said.

As ads and previews ran on the big screen, she fiddled with the camera — which she got in July and is still learning how to work — and was surprised to see it took clear videos of the screen.

The footage she shot also includes the pre-film commercials, as well as her talking about the camera and the movie.

“You can hear me talking the whole time,” Tumpach said.

She plans to fight in court the felony filed against her because she said she did nothing wrong — and certainly didn’t try to secretly tape the movie.

“It was never my intention to record the movie,” she said.

Woman who recorded 'Twilight' movie sues theater
June 29, 2010 9:16 AM | 24 Comments

In a new twist on the "Twilight Saga: New Moon" movie-taping controversy, former defendant Samantha Tumpach has become the plaintiff.

In a lawsuit filed in Cook County Circuit Court, Tumpach alleges wrongdoing at the hands of the movie facility where she was arrested in November 2009 after employees caught her recording segments of the tween vampire hit with a personal video camera.

Tumpach, 22, is suing Rosemont's Muvico movie theater for more than $50,000, charging malicious prosecution, intentional infliction of emotional distress, negligence and defamation.
"She has suffered great public ridicule, embarrassment, humiliation, inconvenience, damages to her reputation and other damages," the lawsuit states.

Well, I guess there is still a teenage girl inside of me then. That or I am questionable. I found the books and the movies enjoyable. It helps to drop out of reality for a little mind vacation with a book or film. Reality would otherwise take it's toll on me.

I get vampire confusion. I was watching True Blood the other day and there was a flashback to 1868 where Bill was walking into a house and I expected his brother to pop up and do something outrageous, and... whoops, that's Vampire Diaries. When I am watching Vampire Diaries I wonder when they sold that cool modern house and moved into the old mansion, and whoops, that's Twilight.

Now we have werewolves and witches and mind reading abilities... I need a program guide to follow it all...

I pooh-poohed the whole Twilight thing for quite awhile but I watched New Moon, was hooked, then I read most of the books and saw the other movies. I like. I'm unrepentant.

OK, the vampires got me.

Not the Twiwussies, but the True Blooders.

I went through the DVDs of Season 1 just out of curiosity at Halloween and was entertained enough to move on to Season 2 -- and that one really hooked me.

Bill is an uptight twit, but the others are so kewl!

My favorites:

Eric Northman is frackin' AWESOME!!

Godric

Jessica

Pam

I can't wait to see Season 3

I was at a friend's house and she showed me bits and pieces of Twilight... I promptly went to the library and read all four books rather quickly. The "history" bits in #3 were rather dull, but I enjoyed most of it. I doubt I will ever see the movies. I usually read nonfiction so this is very different for me, but it was great escapism!
