Petunia didn't take but she went into heat a couple of days ago and there's been a lot of farmyard action going on. This morning looked like a winner so keep your fingers crossed 3 months, 3 weeks and 3 days from now is October 20.

We don't think Gabby took either, she should come into heat in a few days... Maybe by then Pork Belly will have had a chance to rest

The new GOS boar arrived this morning and after some serious coaxing we got him unloaded and into his private pasture. After he cooled off and calmed down he spent some time making a nice wallow and exploring his new digs.

He's registered as "Timmy" but we think he needs another pig name. Any suggestions would be appreciated

He does have the Timzilla look but we were thinking of something with a more English character like Arthur, Alfred, Amos, Arnold, Hugo, Oivin (Irvin), Jules...you get the picture.

He's really settling down and is quite a talker. We'll give him a few days before we introduce him to the girls.

Right now we're trying on Chester LOL. He's a breeder boar and the meat from them can get pretty strong so it's not likely we'll be eating him. He was reared in a larger operation and doesn't quite know what to do with all the attention. Everything is so new to him but he seems to be adapting well.

Hamish is good!

LOL. Hamish is a fine name.

Ate some wild boar sausage and spit it out, too gamey for me.

They say the Chinese have the sexiest pigs.

We just can't help but be partial to Old Spots:

I read somewhere that sexy Chinese boars are even more virile than European breeds. I don't recall where, but I do recall the article implied they were fatter, randier and sexier.

This article says something complety different.

The only pig I'm familiar with is Babe, the sheep herding pig from New Zealand. The only pig I've sen in real life wash shockingly huge. A sow with about 12 piglets lying on her side in a museum farm. We got there in a Nor-easter with a high wind and rains, and she lay in blissfull contentment in an open shelter nursing her brood.

She was immense.

They can get really big. Our sows will top out at around 400 lbs and the boars can be 5-600. Right now they are all around 200+. We're getting an interesting dose of experience with them to say the least. The GOS are so sweet even when you are forcing them to do something they don't want to do. The Large Black however, are noticeably more aggressive.

I can just imagine them roaming the street of old New York, must have been something as they ate all the garbage.

My chinese sign is wood pig. An amiable sign.

Gabby is ready to pop! She's in her own area with a nice nest of hay...and she's miserable, poor baby. The count down has begun.

Don't wrestle with a pig. The pig enjoys it and you get muddy.

Oh no. Chester is our breeding stock and so are both of the girls, Gabby and Petunia. They won't ever be ham or bacon. But their younguns aren't so fortunate. Chester is such a good boy. He's just like the girls, so friendly and loveable.

Still no piglets this morning... I guess its like a watched pot never boils or something. But she's mighty uncomfortable I can tell you that. It won't be long.
