Default New WIP: TBM Bird Quilt

Now that I have Critters in the Garden done (must get photo soon) I can start the TBM Bird Quilt. There's no rhyme or reason which block I work on first, just whatever I feel like doing. Here's the first offering, chosen because it took some modifications to the orginal pattern.

The original, as the designer crafted it:

And my adaptation to change it from a yellow warbler to a Varied Thrush:

I'm dying to see all the completed blocks then the quilt assembled & complete.

I am in awe of anyone who can craft such beautiful works of art.

I love to view quilts, whether they are in progress, in someone's home or on display. Beautiful!

Your cardinal is under construction. .

Does anyone have a small piece of very narrow (1/8 inch) black-and-white stripes, about
6 inches by 6 inches? I need it for the loon and the woodpecker, and haven't seen it locally. And while I can order fabric online, I'd have to get a half-yard minimum!

Sue's Cardinal. 3 different reds, 2 oranges. The background, the orange beak and feet, and the tree branch are my hand dyes; the rest are commercial fabrics.

He is BEAUTIFUL!

He looks just like the dude at my feeder! I don't know quilting could be elevated to this kind of art. Your fabric collection must be to die for.

Thanks, guys. I may have to make an expedition to G Street Fabrics, or bite the bullet and order the stuff on Ebay.

Let me look through a friend's stash. She'll be back in town tomorrow.

OK, thanks, Andrea. I have some ideas if that doesn't work out.

Because there was a pair of them showing off and singing at the landfill today, next up is the Red-Winged Blackbird.

I'm headed to the craft store Monday so let me see if they have any in the quilting square bundles they have.

My MIL found a stash of fabric that she hadn't opened since they moved up here. So I asked her to check for it. I'll let you know.

Speaking of cardinals...

We have a video camera in the window over our front door so we can see who is approaching the house.

Look who's watching us.

No joy with my MIL. She even checked with a friend who owns a quilting shop and she doesn't have any in the store. But, she's going to check her personal stash that she has at home.

This search is becoming epic. We're going to have to name it!

Off the top of my head, I'm thinking - "The Great Loony Search".

Headed over to my fabric hoarding friends house in a few hours where we shall partake of adult beverages and search for black & white striped fabric. I shall attempt to make sure that I look for straight lines, but, depending on how many melon margaritas I drink, it may be a challenging task . . .

Wings' Red-winged Blackbird. I had to take it completely apart, because one of the pieces looked really weird and disjointed. Turned out that I had missed sewing on a piece (that little triangles just to the left of his neck) and that was why it wasn't lining up. And of course it was in the middle of the block, not on an edge!

No luck on the B&W striped fabric. I even checked out the new Joannes where they were having a huge yarn sale. sigh . . .
