Default Hydroponics

A little help please .

I pretty much have a simple and small hydroponics system ready
to go but I do not know how frequently to flood the tank .

It is winter now and temperature varies between roughly 0 degree C
and 20 Deg C .

I can quite easily vary the time interval between flooding based on time
of day . Later I will be able to take in to consideration ambient temperature
and possibly sunlight strength . However at this moment I am just using
time of day .

The potting medium in use is expanded clay balls .

I have not planted anything yet , so I am open to suggestions but
initially it will be decorative rather than a food crop .

At this moment I am thinking 1 hour intervals after dark and 40 min
intervals during the day , but I really do not have a clue .

Oh yes , one last question .
I am only flooding the tank until it is full then letting it drain . Is that
enough or do I have to leave the tank full of nutrient fluid for say
10 minutes ? Expanded clay drains verrrry quickly .

Thank-you .

ps .... How about Mods starting an entire little room devoted to
hydroponics . It might attract new members whose brains are
full of knowledge and experience .
