Garbage attracts bugs, bugs attract birds, and birds can carry avian flu. Would burning manure and garbage help disrupt bird flu epidemics? I understand that other precautions would needed, too. Thank you in advance.

I don't think it'll help much.

In birds the natural strains circulate mostly among ducks who freely shed their manure in the water...i can't see a way to stop (or burn) that.

Also the usual infection route is from wild birds to birdfarms. Most naturally occuring LPAI don't cause much problems in chicken anyway. Sometimes there's a noticeable drop in egg production and at that points the chickens might be tested but many times an LPAI is detected in routine screening done on slaughtered birds without any effect that could be seen on the farm.

For the more Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza's the only way to stop them coming into the chickens is blocking contact.

Another problem is that we use genetic monoculteres in the big farms which make it a lot easier for the infecting strain. Several SE Asian countries are experimenting with local breeds that are much more resistant to any bird flu infection.

By the time a bird flu becomes a human flu other measures are more important like handwashing (and training yourself not to touch your eyes and nose all the time...people do that a lot).

Aside: the other big reservoir for human pandemics is swine/wild pigs but i don't think you can control them by burning manure or garbage either.
