One question : Should we assume that Chronic Liver Disease does not contain the conditions created by too much alcohol, to not count it twice ? How does it still increase ?

Well, since we are the cause of everyone else's ills, this would be cause for celebration. I know there is a Democrat in Maine who must be thrilled.

Seriously, the concepts of fatherhood and manhood have been under attack for years now, and this is just one of the outcomes.

It's not coming back for most of us, it's not going to get any better. When you have nothing much to live for there isn't much to lose.

When I look at those charts in my first post it seems to me there
was a significant turning point around 97/98 .

Do we know why ?

Was having a Democrat president a factor ?

Don't know about "middle aged whites" but us old guys really don't give a dang anymore. For a time I felt sorry for myself about not having any kids. Now I'm glad and guilt free because I did not throw kids into the mess that is coming.

I think America is done for as other nations like Rome passing. The people who want one world order are winning the battle to destroy us. Without a serious house cleaning, which will never be done, our life expectancy is short.

Too many holes in the boat and not enough bail power.

Oxycontin was introduced in 1996 and heavily marketed.

Quote:
1996: The birth of OxyContin
Purdue Pharma started testing OxyContin as a long-term painkiller in 1994, and it went on the market in 1996.

In the early '90s, the number of painkiller prescriptions filled at U.S. pharmacies increased by 2 million to 3 million each year, according to a National Institute on Drug Abuse study. From 1995 to 1996, the number of prescriptions jumped by 8 million.

In 1998, Purdue Pharma created a video promotion called "I Got My Life Back." It followed six people who suffered from chronic pain and were treated with OxyContin. The company distributed (PDF) 15,000 copies of the video to be used in in "physician waiting rooms as a 'check out' item for an office's patient education library."

"They don't wear out; they go on working; they do not have serious medical side effects," a doctor featured in the video said. "So, these drugs, which I repeat, are our best, strongest pain medications, should be used much more than they are for patients in pain."

A year after the video came out, the overall number of opioid painkiller prescriptions filled jumped by 11 million.

Purdue Pharma took out ads for OxyContin in medical journals across the nation in 2000. Seven years later, the company and three of its executives would be charged with misbranding its drug and downplaying the possibility of addiction. Three executives pleaded guilty, and the company settled with the U.S. government for $635 million.
