Default Welcome to TBM's new Op/Ed forum!

Here is a new place for members to express their opinion and write editorials on news, politics, the economy, or life in general.

The rules of this forum are simple. The standard TBM TOS rules (no spam, no personal attacks, etc) apply here. Like anything on the Main Floor we ask you to keep in mind this forum is visited by a general audience and behave accordingly. If discussions become too heated, or if the subject matter or language is inappropriate for the Main Floor, your thread may be moved Downstairs.

As usual, expect challenges and debates when you post your opinion. However, if you just want to state an opinion without further discussion, please close the thread when you submit your OP (Go Advanced, then scroll down to Thread Management). If you are unable or unsure to do that, ask a moderator to close the thread for you. If you fail to close the thread and people respond, we will NOT delete those responses.

If you want your Op/Ed thread to appear on our front page (thisbluemarble.com) just add tbmfp to the tag field.

Have fun!

Been researching something for the better part of two weeks - almost ready to start running off at the typewriter...

Apparently we're not as opinionated as we thought.

It is my considered opinion that TBM readers have no opinions worthy of reading, hence the dearth of opinions in this section of the forum... in my opinion...

Oric is right: people aren't opping or edding, they're just posting stuff from elsewhere.

Geez, Ross, we'd hate for you to strain yourself. Having opinions is okay, but writing them down and arguing them out are so dreary, right? I mean, you have to make a logical case, lay out justifications, come up with evidence! It's drudgery! What right do others have to ask you to do that? And who has the energy? Maybe there's something good on TV, after all, eh? Priorities, priorities!

Never fear, guy, that's not what we're after. Just maybe keep the news items in the news area, OK? Buck up, my friend! It's just one slot lower in the menu! Drop that cursor just a little farther! You can do it! We have faith in you!

I've been overtrained to cite references.

I can only have an opinion if I have a suitable bibliography to support it.

Threads in other forums usually start with an outside reference to a news article. You can close those threads too if you're the original poster but it makes no sense because you like follow up links & other peoples comments and opinions there too.

Here you can write an opinion piece yourself on about anything you want like in the Coliseum on CE.

The thread locking option is for one off rants or something like that and i don't see much use for it myself.

You missed what I said. I said yours is the *only* thread posted so far that is within the intent of the forum. You posted your opinion, your words. That is what we are supposed to be doing here, instead of posting news articles with almost no commentary of our own along with them. An article link is fine if it is the starting point for your own editorial, but that is mostly not what is happening so far.

Crap! I am confusing you. I was talking about the one on profiling being the one that was correct for this forum. Sorry, my error.
